A video surveillance camera in the parking lot of Lowe's spied a Coolspring Township man stealing about $2,400 worth of tools out of a truck Christmas Eve and also captured the suspected thief's vehicle and part of a license plate number, police said.

Weylin Jennings Scott, 22, of 724 N. Perry Highway, was arrested at 12:45 p.m. Friday after an off-duty Hermitage policeman spotted Scott's vehicle, followed him and called 911, police said. Scott was arrested in the 3900 block of East State Street.

Police said they recovered some of the tools in Scott's vehicle, as well as additional tools that Scott admitted stealing from another vehicle in the parking lot. The videotape showed Scott going through other vehicles as well, police said.

The victim had parked his pickup truck at Lowe's on his way to work between 8 and 10 a.m. Dec. 24. When he got to work, he discovered his tools had been taken from an unlocked compartment of his truck, police said. Among the items stolen were two Hitachi air guns valued at $650 each, a $150 Mikita grinder with case, a cordless drill with case valued at $225 and a DeWalt drill worth $175, police said.

Police are asking for other victims that morning to call Hermitage Police Department's detective division at (724) 983-6782 and describe the missing tools.
