Charge dropped in fatal car-pedestrian crash

A charge against a Sharon man who hit two pedestrians with his car in November -- killing one -- was dropped last month, according to the Ohio State Patrol.

Edward Rinko, 48, of 632 E. State St., was charged Nov. 18 with aggravated vehicular homicide after his northbound car hit Sue Combine, 25, of 7467 Sharon-Stewart Road, Brookfield, and Jeffrey B. Culp, 26, of 7908 Rose Ave., Masury.

The two were walking west on Broadway Avenue, crossing U.S. Route 62, at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 15 when Rinko's car hit them, police said.

Rinko fled, and Culp or Ms. Combine -- who was killed -- may have been hit by as many as two other vehicles while lying on the road.

Ms. Combine was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, after being treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System.

Rinko later returned to the scene and admitted his car had hit the couple, police said.

Rinko was arraigned Nov. 18 in Trumbull County Eastern District Court, Brookfield, on a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide after spending the weekend in jail. The case was sent to a Trumbull County grand jurt.

Trooper Don Walker, who handled the case, said the grand jury last month classified the case as a "no bill" land the charge against Rinko was dropped in mid-December.

Ken Bailey, who handled the case for the Trumbull County prosecutor, was out of the office Friday and could not be reached for comment.

Walker said no one else has been charged, and he doesn't think anyone will be charged.
