A Sharon man who was charged Sunday with hitting his ex-wife with a car was taken to Mercer County Jail Monday after failing to post $25,000 bond.

Joseph Boulware Sr., 30, of 100 First Ave., who was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and driving while under suspension, was arraigned Monday morning before District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage. A preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 22.

Meanwhile, his ex-wife was in satisfactory condition Monday afternoon in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, where police said she was being treated for several broken bones.

Police gave the following account:

Boulware was giving his ex-wife, Michelle Boulware, a ride to her Hermitage home at about 6:30 p.m. when they began to argue.

Ms. Boulware jumped out of the car on a desolate stretch of Lynnwood Drive, west of Freedland Road, to get away from her ex-husband.

He tried to hit her once with the car, missed, turned his car around, ran her over and then drove away.

A passerby saw her lying by the side of the road and notified authorities.

Sharon police found Boulware's car parked in front of his home and arrested him at a Silver Street tavern at 8:40 p.m. Sunday.

Hermitage police said Sunday's incident is a violation of Boulware's probation.

He was put on a year's probation, fined $200 and ordered to stay away from Ms. Boulware after he pleaded guilty Dec. 20 to simple assault for punching her in the face several times a week earlier, according to a spokesperson in Russo's office.
