Man accused of theft from ex-wife's family

A Shenango Township man has been charged with stealing a checkbook from his estranged wife's grandmother and cashing three forged checks, police said.

Justin J. Wyman, 31, of 709 New Bedford Road, was charged by Hermitage police with two counts each of forgery and theft and one count of receiving stolen property, and by Southwest Mercer County Regional police with two counts of theft and one count each of receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Wyman, who police said is addicted to crack cocaine, stole the checkbook between Nov. 1 and 4 from the home of 94-year-old Julia DiGiacomo, who lives next door to him, police said. Wyman's wife, Angela, is her grandmother's caretaker, police said.

He filled out checks to himself and presented an Ohio driver's license for identification when he cashed them at First National Bank branches, police said.

Wyman cashed a $160 check at 11:13 a.m. Nov. 1 in Neshannock Township, a $380 check at 11:43 a.m. Nov. 1 in Hermitage, and a check for $400 Nov. 5 at another Hermitage branch, police said.

He also borrowed a car from his mother-in-law, Louise Kearns, on Nov. 5 and returned it, police said.

District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage, held all charges for court at a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Wyman was taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $8,000 bond.

Twenty-six counts of theft filed by state police are pending in Mercer County Common Pleas Court for incidents between Feb. 11 and March 20 in Sharon.
