Reynolds School Board granted administration employees raises and froze technology spending Wednesday.

The board voted 6 to 3 to give administrative personnel such as principles, secretaries and school psychologists 3 percent raises.

Board President Jeff Colson, Barry Nelson and John Lowry all voted against the raises; Maddox Stokes, Gary Preston, Brad Stull, George Reeher, Bruce Wilson and Dan McBride voted in favor of the raises.

Superintendent Dr. Anthony Trosan said the raises do not affect the budget. In fact, the raises are lower than what was budgeted. Combined, the salary increases total about $13,500, Trosan said.

The board also granted a $1,000 raise to Business Manager Mary Ammann. Mrs. Ammann was hired in August at $51,000, and her contract stipulated she would get the raise if she got a satisfactory review.

The board also approved a recommendation from Lowry, technology committee chairman, to freeze all major technology equipment purchases, other than routine maintenance, with the understanding that major purchases are subject to review and approval.

"We are broke," Lowry said. "We must make better use of what we have."

Lowry said the committee also wants to review software licenses and who in the school needs to have Internet connections. He also said the committee proposed a new program, Student Technology Problem Solvers, for ninth through twelfth graders who have the skill and interest to do routine maintenance on computers.
