Woman cited for December wreck

A Pittsburgh woman cited for causing an accident in which seven people were injured has pleaded not guilty.

Miriam J. Ventura, 51, has already paid a $25 fine plus costs, but has asked for a hearing, which is set for 1 p.m. Feb. 12 before District Justice Ruth M. French, Mercer.

Ms. Ventura's car was eastbound at 4:27 p.m. Dec. 21 on Scrubgrass Road, Findley Township, when it went into the westbound land while going over the crest of a hill on the curving road, and hit head-on a car driven by Thomas R. Eddy, 29, of Boyers, state police said.

A passenger in Ms. Ventura's car, Adeline Vennell, 7, of McKees Rocks, was admitted to UPMC Children's Hospital, Pittsburgh, in critical condition and was released Jan. 15.

Eddy spent two days in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Ms. Ventura, two other children in her car, and two passengers in Eddy's car were treated at United Community Hospital, Pine Township, police said, adding none of the children was wearing a seat belt.
