A preliminary hearing was continued Friday for a Salem Township man accused of assaulting an Ohio woman Dec. 18 during a fight over a parking space outside a store in Hermitage.

The hearing was continued because the alleged victim was hospitalized for an unrelated illness.

Jan M. Kassander, 63, of 784 Mitchell Hill Road, was to appear before District Justice Henry J. Russo, Hermitage.

Kassander is charged with simple assault after he allegedly punched Sharon Maybee, 31, of Burghill in the face in an East State Street parking lot. The pair argued over a parking space, police said.

Ms. Maybee was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, police said.
