Accused child pornographer held in jail

A Pine Township man indicted in a federal child pornography case has been ordered held in jail until his trial.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Brysh, Pittsburgh, said a federal magistrate determined Monday that Richard Carroll, 37, of 447 Irishtown Road, is a danger to others.

Carroll, Gerald E. Goebert, 48, of Pittsburgh, and Sharon Dorsch, 42, of Pittsburgh, were indicted Friday on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, possessing child pornography, failing to notify authorities of a felony and acessory after the fact.

Carroll and Goebert have been in custody. Goebert also was to have a detention hearing Monday, but did not have an attorney, and the hearing was postponed until today, Brysh said.

Ms. Dorsch was arrested over the weekend, but the U.S. Attorney's Office did not seek to have her detained, and she was released, Brysh said.

According to the indictment, Carroll sexually molested and took nude photographs of a minor between December 1999 and May 2000.

The minor, whose gender has not been released, was between the ages of 11 and 13 during that time, Brysh said, adding the abuse took place in Pittsburgh.

Geobert possessed three of the photos and converted them into computer files, the indictment says.

Ms. Dorsch was aware of the abuse, but failed to report it, and took steps to prevent Carroll from being arrested, the indictment says.

The case has not been assigned to a judge. When it is, Carroll, Goebert and Ms. Dorsch will be arraigned.
