PLCB raids 3 local clubs
on Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday ended with three Mercer County social clubs getting busted by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board for running pools.

The PLCB in Erie conducted a "Super Bowl Sunday Patrol" of 41 premises in Mercer County. Thirty places were checked for opening before hours and seven open inspections were conducted for football pools, according to a news release from the PLCB.

According to the release, three clubs were running pools including the First Italian Social Club, 806 Spearman Ave., Farrell; the American Carpathian Russian Citizens and Social Club, 658 Sharpsville Ave., Sharon; and the Wilbur Rhodes Post 6345 Veterans of Foreign Wars, 432 S. Erie St., Mercer.

No money was found at the Italian club and the pool was seized, the release said. The pool was seized, along with $700 from the American Carpathian Russian Club, and the pool and $476 were seized from the VFW in Mercer, the release said.
