Alice May Boyd Coolspring Twp. woman belonged to Mercer church Alice May Boyd, 793 Magner Road, Coolspring Township, where she lived for 60 years, died at 10:11 p.m. Tuesday (1-28-03) in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 84. Mrs. Boyd was born May 15, 1918, in Ingram, Pa., to Walter G. and Alice May Kopp Brautigam. She was a telephone billing clerk for Mercer Greenhouse Inc. Mrs. Boyd was a member of Mercer United Methodist Church; and Order of the Eastern Star Mercer Chapter 180. Her first husband, Elmer LaVern Shannon, whom she married Oct. 21, 1943; and her second husband, Jerome M. Boyd, whom she married July 21, 1954, both preceded her in death. Surviving are: two sons, Terrance "Terry" Alan Shannon, Greenville; and Dale J. Boyd, with whom she lived; and two brothers, Walter E. "Bud" Brautigam, Mercer; and Robert O. Brautigam, Mercer. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents.
BOYD Raymond D. Hassel Decorated vet of two wars worked at Westinghouse Raymond D. Hassel, Transfer, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday (1-28-03) in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 75. Mr. Hassel was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Sharon to William and Opal Fair Hassel. A lifelong area resident, Ray attended Sharon schools. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean War. The decorated war veteran served 13 years. Following his discharge in 1957, he returned to Sharon and was employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Raymond was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage. He enjoyed his time with family and friends and previously was an avid golfer. Surviving are: his wife, the former Merideth "Mary" Ball, whom he married Sept. 19, 1980, at home. He also leaves twins, Dale and Patricia; two stepsons, William Ball and his wife, Elizabeth, Hartford; and Thomas Ball and his wife, Tammy, Brookfield; two stepdaughters, Gwendolyn McConnell, Sharon; and Pamela Mozilo and her husband, Robert, New York City; one brother, Norman Hassel, Sharon; nine stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Matilda Reed Hassel, who died in 1978; and two brothers, William and John "Jack" Hassel.
HASSEL Isabelle Holler Homemaker formerly lived in Sharon Isabelle Holler, 1049 Smith Ave., Hermitage, formerly of Sharon, died at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday (1-29-03) in the home of her sister, Julia Kaliney, with whom she lived. She was 88. Miss Holler was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Argentine, Pa., to Stephen and Julia Doka Holler. She was a homemaker and member of Holy Trinity Church, Farrell. Surviving besides her sister is a brother, William Holler, Hubbard. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Kuglics and Theresa Holler; and five brothers, Andrew Holler, Julius Holler, Charles Holler, Stephen Holler and Joseph Holler. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
HOLLER William McKinley Jones Sharon native lived, worked in California
William McKinley Jones passed away Monday (1-27-03) in his home in Sun City, Calif. He was 75.
The following obituary is being reprinted from Wednesday's Herald to correct errors by The Herald. Lawrence Jones Jr. Hermitage man worked at Wheatland Tube, elsewhere Lawrence Jones Jr., of 1938 S. Keel Ridge Road, Hermitage, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Monday (1-27-03) at Woodland Place in Coolspring Township. He was 78. Mr. Jones was born Feb. 1, 1924 in Jackson County, Mississippi, to Lawrence and Georgia Lyons Jones. He attended Jasper County, Mississippi, schools and worked for Ingall's Shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss. He was a former member of Falti Baptist Church in Mississippi. Mr. Jones also was a former Wheatland Tube employee and worked as a farmer, laborer, mechanic's helper and truck driver. Mr. Jones was reared by his maternal aunt, Geneva Nobles of Bay Springs, Miss. During his youth he traveled extensively. On March 17, 1950, he married Alice Crosby Hilton, who is now deceased. Surviving are: one daughter, Georgia R. Jones Ellebie and her husband John S., Hermitage; three sons, Jerry Quince, Pontiac, Mich.; Donald Hartfield, Moss Point, Miss.; and Alexander K. Lawson and his wife Bonnie, Houston; seven grandchildren, Quinton Smith and his wife Trephanie, Edwards Air Force Base, California; Sharon Smith, Indiana, Pa.; Amber Smith, Hermitage; Alexander Jr., Alexis and Marisa Lawson, all Houston; and Jamal Quince, Pontiac, Mich.; and three stepsons, Anderson G. Hilton, Hermitage; Otha W. Hilton and his wife Morris, Farrell; and Curtis L. Hilton and his wife Minerva, Farrell. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Anna Gavin.
JONES Andrew Logan Andrew Logan, Windsor Health Care Center, 1735 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, died at 6 p.m. Sunday (1-26-03) in the nursing home. Youngstown. He was 66. Obituary information remains incomplete.
LOGAN Pearl E. Meszaros Sharon Baptist member worked at Elks Club Funeral service will be Saturday for Pearl E. Meszaros, Concord Place, 2452 Rockhill Church Road, Concord, N.C., formerly of Connelly Manor, Sharon. She passed away peacefully at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday (1-28-03) in Northeast Medical Center in Concord. She was 91. Mrs. Meszaros was born July 8, 1911, in Carnegie, Pa., the daughter of John and Mary Maykowvich Poskevich. She attended schools in Carnegie. Mrs. Meszaros was previously employed at the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Sharon Lodge 103, where she was a waitress for many years. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, Hermitage; and their Senior Saints Ladies Missionary Group. While living in Concord, she was affiliated with Concord Christian Church. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Kaiser and her husband, W. Tim Kaiser, Concord; her sister, Anna Hoyson, Sharon; two grandchildren, Suzanne Marburger and her husband, Brian Marburger; and Randy Kaiser and his wife, Janet Kaiser, all Concord; one grandson-in-law, James Cowan, Youngsville, Pa.; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Vicki Cowan; one infant great-granddaughter, Savannah Marburger; and one brother, Peter Poskevich. MESZAROS Assunta Smegal Assunta Smegal, John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, formerly of Farrell, died Wednesday (1-29-03) in the nursing home. She was 79. Obituary information was incomplete.
SMEGAL Lorraine Pisegna Stickelmeyer '77 Sharon High graduate was home-health provider Lorraine Pisegna Stickelmeyer, 2160 Flint Drive, Hermitage, unexpectedly passed away peacefully on Monday (1-27-03) in her residence. She was 43. A lifelong area resident, she was born Oct. 20, 1959, in Sharon. Lorraine was a 1977 alumna of Sharon High School. Later, she graduated from the Pennsylvania State University and Sharon Regional Health System School of Nursing with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. A home-health provider, Lorraine assisted many people throughout the area for a number of years. Lorraine was a loving daughter, sister and aunt and she will be sadly missed by her family. She is survived by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Catherine) Pisegna, Sharon; and her only sister, Mrs. Shawn (Lynn P.) Flower, Hermitage; and their two children, Andrea and Stefan Flower. She also leaves her husband, Craig Stickelmeyer, Byesville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles and her grandparents. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Church, 804 Idaho St., Sharon 16146.
