2 Greenville-area men jailed after alleged grab-and-run
Brookfield police arrested two Greenville-area men Tuesday after they allegedly stole three bottles of alcohol from a grocery store.
Michael D. Garrity, 19, of 128 Kennard Road, Lot 5, and Justin H. Gulentz, 18, of 827 Methodist Road were charged with theft.
Police received a call at 8:58 p.m. about a possible shoplifting at Giant Eagle. The store manager told police he chased two males out of the store yelling for them to stop, after he suspected they had stolen something, said Police Chief Daniel Faustino. The men ran into a field behind the store, he said. A suspected third male was outside in a vehicle and drove off, he added.
Police were able to track the two men through the woods from their footprints in the snow, Faustino said. Police came out of the woods to Warren-Sharon Road and were led by the prints to a coin laundry where the men were found hiding in a locked bathroom, Faustino said.
At first the two denied taking anything from the store, then one of the men confessed they had taken three bottles of Pucker, police said. The bottles were recovered outside the laundry near a Dumpster, police said.
The men also told police they are free on bond from a previous burglary charge and feared they'd get their bond revoked if they were arrested, Faustino said.
The were taken to Trumbull County Jail.
