Man charged with indecent exposure

A former Hermitage man was brought from the state of Washington to face charges of indecent exposure and open lewdness and a probation violation that stemmed from an indecent exposure conviction.

Hermitage police served a warrant on Donald Sever Jr., whose current address is the Mercer County Jail, on charges stemming from an August 2000 incident in which he allegedly exposed himself to a woman in the parking lot of a Hermitage store.

According to the police affidavit:

Sever was sitting in a black pickup truck when he asked for a cigarette from two women walking by. They said they didn't have any. One of the women remembered that she had seen him in the parking lot of another Hermitage business and that he had asked her if she knew where any parties were.

He asked them to come over to his truck because he wanted to show them something. One woman walked up to the truck and saw him performing a lewd act on himself. She told her friend, who called 911.

At the time of the incident, Sever's address was 1295 S. Darby Road. Hermitage police were able to track down the address from the truck's license plate. When confronted at his home, Sever admitted to having been at Wal-Mart and to having been charged with indecent exposure before. He said he was on probation for indecent exposure, but denied doing anything wrong this time. Police told him he would be sent a citation.

Authorities recently found him in Canada and took him to Washington. He was brought back to Mercer County at the request of the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole.

Hermitage police picked him up Tuesday at the county jail and brought him to District Justice Henry J. Russo's court for arraignment. Sever was returned to jail after failing to post $10,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 7 at Russo's office in Hermitage.
