Morocco seeks re-election as mayor

Farrell Mayor William A. Morocco announced his plans to run for re-election at Monday's Farrell council meeting.

Morocco, 56, a Democrat, will seek his second term in office. He served as a council member for 16 years, and says he has served as mayor for "three years and one month."

Facing no Republican opposition, Morocco defeated a Democratic candidate in the primary four years ago.

"We as a community are making progress and a constant effort to work together," he said.

"We always have the door open and the lights on," he added.

He said council is working to bring other interests to the community, including economic support through new business.

"We're anticipating the completion of interviews for the best candidate of community economic director. Once that person comes on board, it will be hard to keep up with us," he said.

Support for the mayor came from council members Lou Falconi, Helen Marenchin, Mark Petrillo and Robert Burich.

"I'm glad to see you're going to run for another term," Burich told Morocco. "Good luck and I'll be behind you."

Morocco is a graduate of Farrell Area High School.

He holds a bachelor's degree from Gannon University, Erie, a master's degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington, and an elementary education certificate from Slippery Rock University.
