Rotunno eyes third term on council

Sharon Councilman Lou Rotunno has announced that he will run for a third term.

Rotunno, 59, of 383 Case Ave., plans to run on the Democratic ticket in the May 20 primary.

Rotunno said he has been active in city affairs all his adult life. He serves on various boards and commissions in the city, including Sharon Recreational Board. He is a trustee of Shenango Valley Community Library, where he is chairman of the endowment fund. Rotunno also serves on Mercer County Regional Planning Commission.

"During my previous two terms on council, I have been an advocate for senior citizens and responsible property owners. I have always insisted that city government be run in a business-like manner," Rotunno said.

Issues the city is facing are lack of code enforcement and keeping expenses in hand so that it isn't impossible for people to buy and keep a home in Sharon, Rotunno said.

He would like to see city officials start to "think outside the box" for ways to pay for increasing costs instead of raising taxes.

There are many senior citizens and low-income families in Sharon, Rotunno said. He said they, like all residents, reach a limit of what they can pay for.

Rotunno is a former General American Transportation Corp. employee of 19 years. He retired from the Masury company in 2002 after 17 years of selling industrial supplies. He and his wife, Adrienne, have three children.
