Man suspected of scamming Amish is arrested in Ohio

A man accused of ripping off at least two groups of Amish loggers was arrested Wednesday in Warren.

Deputies from Trumbull County Sheriff's Department arrested Timothy Grimes, 34, formerly of Kinsman, Ohio, at a house on Austin Avenue on the city's southwest side at 1:30 p.m.

Detective Rick Tackett said they got a tip that Grimes was hiding in the house.

Grimes allegedly approached at least two different groups in the Amish community in Middlefield, Ohio, offering them rights to log timber on land in Hubbard Township.

Police say Grimes told the men he had permission from the property owners to sell the timber on their property.

The men paid a total of $31,000 for the rights to the timber. One of the properties is owned by Mid West Steel on Mt. Everett Road, near the Interstate 80 overpass, Det. Mike Begeot said. The other property, a private residence, is located on Fox North Road.

Grimes was being held in Trumbull County Jail.
