Head-on crash sends teen to hospital

A Greenville teenager and a Jamestown man were both injured in a head-on crash at 8:36 a.m. Saturday at Clarksville Street and Coal Hill Road in Greenville, police said.

Justin Stafford, 17, of 102 Circle Drive, was flown to Hamot Medical Center, Erie, and Donald McKnight, 35, of 5036 E. Lake Road, was taken to UPMC Horizon, Greenville, police said. Stafford was in serious condition; UPMC Horizon had no record of admitting McKnight, hospital spokeswomen said.

Police said Stafford's pickup was northbound on Clarksville Street when he crossed over the center line into the path of McKnight's southbound van. When McKnight saw Stafford's pickup he tried to stop but was unable to, and the two vehicles hit head-on, police said.

Traffic was detoured for about an hour after the accident, police said.

Greenville-West Salem Township police were assisted at the scene by Hempfield and Pymatuning police and Greenville firefighters, police said.
