12-year-old with a lighter
accidentally sets house fire
No one was hurt in a fire Sunday at 109 Emerson Ave. that was accidentally started by a boy with a lighter, said Farrell firefighters, who were called at 8:25 p.m.
The 12-year-old boy was using the lighter to look for something under his bed, and the lighter caught mesh underneath, firefighters said.
The boy and his mother tried to put out the fire but could not, firefighters said.
The front bedroom and a bathroom were gutted by flames, while the rest of the two-story house sustained smoke and water damage, firefighters said. The American Red Cross found shelter for the family.
Clark Howell owns the house, which is insured, firefighters said.
