"As a professional educator and lifelong advocate of quality academics for schoolchildren, and the need to continue to upgrade our schools to compete in a rapidly changing technological world, I dedicate my time and energy in fulfilling that goal," Russo said.

Russo has served four terms as a director. He said he has been involved in community service as a secretary to Sharon Recreation Board and is a past member of Sharon Planning Commission, where he served for 17 years as vice chairman.

Russo said he has also served on numerous study groups "to improve the quality of life within the city of Sharon."

"I feel my lifetime of service to the residents of the greater Shenango Valley area and proven leadership qualifies me to continue with this work," Russo said.

In addition to local educational work, Russo serves as vice president of Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV in Grove City. Unit IV's educational board represents 27 school districts in Mercer, Lawrence and Butler counties.

During the Korean War, Russo served in the Air Force with the 41st Fighter Squadron. He is the adjutant for Shenango Valley Post 25, Italian-American War Veterans. He also is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and numerous fraternal organizations in the Shenango Valley.
