Piccirilli, Ruffo
seek spots
on city board

Two Hermitage school directors plan to run for commissioners' seats in the May primary.

Duane J. Piccirilli, 47, of 169 Cohasset Drive, and Tim Ruffo, 42, of 1326 Wakefield Drive, feel that the current board of commissioners has done a good job in developing the infrastructure of the city, but believe it's time for new leadership, according to a news release.

Piccirilli, school board president, has a bachelor of arts in social work from Pennsylvania State University and a master's degree in counseling from Slippery Rock University. He is executive director of Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc., Youngstown, and a licensed clinical counselor.

In addition to the school board -- on which he has served for 10 years, four as president -- he is vice president of the Community Counseling Center in Hermitage and treasurer of the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley Community Action Council. He is also chairman of the Hermitage Board of Appeals and a member of the Human Relations Commission in Hermitage.

Piccirilli and his wife, Maria, have two children, Roslyn and Michael.

Ruffo, a graduate of Hickory High School, has an associate degree in engineering from Penn State. He also holds a journeyman's card as an electrician. He is maintenance manager at Regenex Corp., West Middlesex. He was an electrician at Sharon Steel Corp., where he was union grievanceman for the melt shops, until it closed in 1993.

Ruffo has been on the school board six years, serving as vice president the last four years. In addition, he serves as the Mercer County Career Center representative for Hermitage School District and was part of several negotiation teams, serving as chief negotiator for the last teachers contract.

Ruffo has three sons, Tim, Sam and Jake.
