An Illinois man was killed Tuesday morning on Interstate 80 when the car he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer, state police said.

Robert L. Bladek, 25, of Steger, was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Deputy Coroner Scott Black.

Police said Bladek's westbound car hit a guardrail in East Lackawannock Township, spun and was hit on the passenger side by the truck.

The driver of the truck, Thomas L. McGonigal, 47, of Clearfield, Pa., was treated at United Community Hospital, Pine Township. Mercer East End volunteer firefighers and Mercer County PennDOT crews assisted.
