Frances Amon Rodeheaver Westminster retiree worked at Overlook, assisted at Bair Frances Amon Rodeheaver, 239 High St., New Wilmington, died at 8:22 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, in The Overlook nursing home, New Wilmington. She was 83. Mrs. Rodeheaver was born March 7, 1919, in Bellevue, Allegheny County, to J. Clyde Amon and Mary Viola Pitzer Amon. She retired from Westminster College in New Wilmington after 29 years serving as secretary and library assistant. Mrs. Rodeheaver also worked for 14 years with The Overlook as activities director and was associated for many years with the Bair Foundation in New Wilmington. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1938 and attended Pittsburgh Business Academy. She served with the U.S. Women's Army Corps from 1943 to 1947 and was an avid collector of dolls. Mrs. Rodeheaver was a member of Living Word Church of New Wilmington. Survivors include: one son, Robert Paul Rodeheaver, Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Mildred) Swaidner, Bellfountaine, Ohio; Mrs. Ed (Margaret) Thomas, Kingman, Ariz.; Mrs. John (Helen) Bright, Fallbrook, Calif.; and Mrs. Harry (Mary Jane) Sheppard, Hermitage; three grandchildren, Mrs. Tony (Jennifer) Hew and Jesse Robert Rodeheaver, both Apopka, Fla.; and Julie Leigh Rodeheaver, Jacksonville; and one great-grandchild, Alayna Marie Hew, due to be born June 26, 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, James Wilbur Amon and Harold Eugene Amon. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 25 N. RODEHEAVER Thomas S. Braine Former GC businessman had sisters living here BRECKNOCK TOWNSHIP, BERKS COUNTY, Pa. -- Thomas S. Braine, Hilltop Road, Brecknock Township, formerly of Grove City, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in his residence. He was 80. Born Feb. 13, 1923, in Grove City, Mr. Braine was a son of the late Harvey S. and Elizabeth Bright Braine. He was co-owner of Braine Brothers Excavating in Grove City from 1946 to 1955 and co-owner of TnT Pies, Bowmansville, Lancaster County, from 1955 until his retirement in 1979. He was an Army veteran. Surviving are: two sons, Jack K. Braine, Brecknock Township; and Jeffrey Braine, Carbondale, Colo.; three daughters, Amy L. (Braine) Styer, Birdsboro, Pa.; Judy (Braine) Lilly, Virginia Beach, Va.; and Tamie J. (Braine) Myers, Lenhartsville, Pa. Other survivors include: two brothers, David Braine, Lancaster; and Paul, New Holland, Pa.; and two sisters, Mary (Braine) McCart and Edna (Braine) Wygant, both Grove City. There are also nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who survive. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children's Home of Reading, 1010 Centre Ave., Reading, PA 19601.
BRAINE Richard P. Walters Neshannock Presbyterian member aided City Rescue Richard P. Walters, 7 Garrett Road, New Wilmington, also of Commons at The Greenbriar in Boardman, Ohio, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, in St. Elizabeth Heath Center, Youngstown, after a short illness. He was 76. Mr. Walters was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Grove City to William Walters and Frances Walters. He graduated from Grove City High School in 1945 and was employed by Rockwell International. Mr. Walters was a member of Neshannock Presbyterian Church in New Wilmington and volunteered at the City Rescue Mission in New Castle. His wife, the former Phyllis Joyce Filer, whom he married Aug. 9, 1946, died Sept. 5, 1992. Survivors include: one son, Scott P. Walters, Boardman; one daughter, Nancy Lee Falba, New Castle; one brother, William Walters, Sacramento, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Mark D. Walters, who died Aug. 10, 1992. Memorial contributions may be made to Neshannock Presbyterian Church, 330 W. Dorothy Krumbach Dorothy Krumbach, 911 Lynita Drive N.E., Brookfield, died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday (2-25-03) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 90. Obituary information was incomplete.
KRUMBACH Emma E. Stiftinger Music, swim teacher was dog breeder, sold Avon Emma E. Stiftinger of O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, formerly of 801 Syme St., both Masury, died Tuesday (2-25-03) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 88. Mrs. Stiftinger was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Sharon, a daughter of August and Theresa Kiefer Mason. She studied piano at the Benedictine Convent in Sharon and taught piano and organ. She enjoyed gardening and bred American Kennel Club cocker spaniels and miniature dachshunds. Mrs. Stiftinger also taught swimming lessons and sold Avon products for 15 years. She was a "Rosy the Riveter" at the former Greenville Steel, where they made tanks and other military vehicles. Survivors include: her husband, John Stiftinger, whom she married Oct. 4, 1947; and one son, John Jeffrey Stiftinger, Masury. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Linus John Stiftinger; one brother, August Mason; and one sister, Ada Samball.
STIFTINGER Francis 'Frank' S. Kendra Jr. PPG retiree was WWII vet, served in Greenville church A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday for Francis "Frank" S. Kendra Jr., 108 Eighth Ave., Hempfield Township. He died at 1:29 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 78. Mr. Kendra was born July 5, 1924, in Kearny, Pa., to Francis S. Kendra Sr. and Irene Sterpka Kendra. He graduated from Ford City (Pa.) High School and Clemson (S.C.) University, where he earned a degree in engineering. He was employed by PPG Plant in Meadville, retiring in 1988 as supervisor of maintenance after 35 years of service. Mr. Kendra was a member of St. Michael's Church in Greenville, where he was a past member of the Parish Council; and a member of the Cursillo group and of the Secular Franciscan Order. He funded the latter organization's peacemaker award for St. Michael's School. He also belonged to Knights of Columbus Council 1446 and American Legion Post 140, both Greenville. A sports fan, Mr. Kendra was an avid golfer and bowler and belonged to St. Michael Thursday Senior Bowling League. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he served during World War II from 1942 to 1944. His wife, the former Irene D. Pavlekovsky, whom he married June 10, 1950, survives. Also surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Mary) Speir, Newport News, Va.; two sons, David F. Kendra, Dunlap, Ill.; and Joseph J. Kendra and his wife Jodi, Jamestown; three sisters, Wanda Rudary, Cleveland; Betty Durec, Ford City; and Mary Ann Yamber, Vandergrift, Pa.; three brothers, Robert Kendra, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; William Kendra, Ford City; and Fred Kendra, Middleburg Heights, Ohio; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Kendra was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of St. Michael's School, 85 N. High St., Greenville 16125.
KENDRA Skylar Marie Stitt Skylar Marie Stitt, 979 Springfield Church Road, Grove City, was stillborn at 12:54 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. Surviving are: her parents, Kenneth Stitt and Laura Brosky Stitt, at home; her maternal grandparents, John and Wanda Brosky, Fort Martin, W.Va.; her paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Genevieve Stitt, Mercer; and her paternal great-grandmother, Hazel Grossman, Grove City. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
STITT Walter Harry Jones National Castings retiree served in Central Christian Walter Harry Jones of 445 Hull St. in Sharon, passed away at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday (2-25-03) in his residence. He was 85. Mr. Jones was born July 29, 1917, in Sharon, a son of Harry and Myrtle Alexander Jones. A lifelong Sharon resident, he attended Sharon schools. Mr. Jones retired in 1980 as an electrician from the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp. in Sharon, where he worked for 42 years. As an active member of Central Christian Church in Hermitage, he served as a senior elder. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at the age of 16 during the Great Depression. An outdoors lover, Mr. Jones enjoyed dogs, hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed reading and working on projects around his home. His wife, the former Mary Alice Mock, whom he married May 12, 1938, passed away Aug. 27, 1997. Surviving are: four sons and their spouses, Walter George Jones Sr. and his wife Laura, Clintonville, Pa.; David Larry Jones and his wife Sherri, Sharon; James E. Jones and his wife Betty, Sparta, Ill.; and Robert T. Jones and his wife Barb, also Sharon; a son-in-law, Stanley M. Lewis, Hermitage; and 15 grandchildren. Besides his wife, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marilyn Lewis; one brother, George Jones; and two sisters, Alda Tackash and Helen Lump. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the CCC Statue Project to New York State Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, Gilbert Lake State Park, 18 CCC Road, Laurens, NY 13796.
JONES Billie Rose Irwin Billie Rose Irwin, 105 Fifth Ave., Sharon, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 73.
