Pair face drug-related charges
after stove fire, police say

A stove fire in Sharon Monday night led to the arrest of two people on drug charges.

Police were called to the home of Preston Dennis, 24, and Minnette Lowe, 27, both of 266 Fourth Ave., for a fire. The fire started on the stove and was contained to the stove, firefighters said.

While in the house police said they saw a 9 mm handgun on a dining room chair along with several plastic baggies with the corners removed, an indicator of drug activity. Drugs are placed in the corners of the bags, which are then sealed and torn off.

Police got a warrant and called in the drug dog to search the house. Police said they found 9 grams of crack cocaine, another gun, a digital scale, money, a safe, a security camera and monitor and five mobile phones.

Both Dennis and Ms. Lowe were charged at 12:43 a.m. Tuesday with possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and conspiracy for possession with intent to deliver, police said.

The pair were arraigned before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon, and were taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $50,00 bond each. Their preliminary hearings are set for March 11.
