Mancino declares candidacy
for 2nd term on school board

Rick Mancino announced Monday he is seeking re-election to the Sharon School Board.

Mancino, 34, of 293 White Ave., is completing his first term on the board. A registered Democrat, Mancino said he is seeking re-election because he is convinced he can do more to help the district and its students while also looking out for the interests of city taxpayers.

Among his accomplishments during his first term, Mancino said he proposed the policy that helped increase the district's standards in education and contributed to the creation of an after-school tutoring program.

Mancino served on the strategic planning committee and is a member of the Association of Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees negotiation committee, the board's athletic committee and Sharon Recreation Board.

Mancino said he also maintained perfect attendance at all school board meetings and workshops as well as many school and student functions.

Mancino earned a bachelor's in history at Youngstown State University in 1995 and is working toward his secondary teaching certificate at YSU.

"It's important for school directors to be actively involved within the school district. It's also imperative that school directors be available to the public," he said.
