With a possible war with Iraq looming, area service men and women and their families might appreciate an encouraging card or e-mail from home.

The Herald is publishing postal and e-mail addresses for local men and women who are serving in the armed forces. The Army has placed a 13-ounce weight limit on packages they will deliver to soldiers.

They are:

   » Lt. j.g. Steve Opalenik, NAVSUPPACT, PSC 817 Box 22, FPO AE 09622; e-mail: opalenis@nsa.naples.navy.mil. Opalenik, a 1983 graduate of West Middlesex High School, writes: "I think this is a great effort on The Herald's part to keep military folks connected with home. Although I am not currently in the Persian Gulf, my family and I are stationed in Naples, Italy, and would like to offer my address. Thanks for the hometown support!

   » Lt. Kevin and Jenny Burns, PSC 1003 Box 8, FPO AE 09728-0308. Burns, a 1989 graduate of Reynolds High School, writes: "I was sad to hear that Werner's was considering cutting out its ladder lines. I worked there for 5 summers and consider them a primary reason for my success today. I am currently stationed at the Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland. I work at the Naval Hospital as a registered nurse. We appreciate all the support of our hometowns and we are very proud to serve our family and friends back home. God bless!"

   » Lance Cpl. Nathan D. Ohl, USMC, A Co. 3rd AABN 2nd Plt., UIC 39831, FPO AP 96426-9831. Ohl, a son of Laddie and Sandy Ohl and grandson of Isabelle Ohl, all of Transfer, is stationed with the Marine Corps in Kuwait.

   » Sgt. Ryan S. Waldorf HHC, 2-187th IN, 101st ABN DIV (AASLT) Unit # 96078 APO, AE 09325-6078. Waldorf, a 1994 graduate of Jamestown High School, is deployed with the 101st Airborne Division in the Middle East. He was previously stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y., as part of the 10th Mountain Division, and recently returned from a yearlong tour in South Korea.

   » Lance Cpl. Nathan DiClaudio, Box 454511, San Diego CA 92145-3025. e-mail: diclaudiona@3maw.usmc.mil. DiClaudio is at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station. He is in the 3rd Marine Corps Air Wing and is a helicopter mechanic on the CH-53. His mother, Linda Dumas, writes: "Thank you so much for remembering our families who are serving!"

   » John A. Derry AFC, 1514 Johnson St., Jacksonville, AR 72076. Derry is a son of David and Beth Brown of New Wilmington.

   » Capt. Michael Gibbons, Camp Pennsylvania, E/801 MSB, 96155, APO AE 09325-6155. Gibbons is a son of Tom and Marsha Gibbons of Hermitage.

   » CW2 William Kilgore, Task Force 11th Regt., 5-158 AVN C Co., APO AE 09302-1387. Kilgore, a 1989 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, has been in the Army for 11 years, spending several years in Italy and Germany. According to his mother, Dee Russell of Farrell, the UH-60 Blackhawk pilot was deployed to Kuwait the first of February. She writes: "My son Bill was stationed in Germany through the holidays and one time when he called home, he told about all the cards and letters he had received and how much he appreciated every one of them. He said he tried to respond to each one. ... For all he missed, he sends thanks for the cards, letters and prayers."

   » 1st Lt. John M. Cidila Jr., 377th TSC/38th ORD. GP., APO AE 09366. A Gulf War veteran and son-in-law of Dee Russell of Farrell, Cidilia was deployed to Kuwait before Thanksgiving. His wife and 14-year-old daughter remain at home: Dee and Justina Cidila, 15 DuPont Road, Poca, WV 25159. Mrs. Russell writes: "They have a support group there in Charleston, W.Va. Perhaps we should organize one for the families here in the valley?"

Tingley left his base in Germany Feb. 15, headed for the Middle East.

His family is still in Germany. His wife's address is: Mary Tingley, Box 322, CMR 407, APO AE -- 09098.

   » Maj. Thomas Tingley, 4561 S. Gibratar St., Aurora, CO 80015. Tingley, who is stationed at Buckley Air Force Base in Denver, will transfer to NATO Air Force Base in Germany in April. His family will move with him.

The Tingleys are sons of Donna Tingley of Stoneboro.

   » Seaman Apprentice Emily Yarian, HC 02 Box 2200, Hudgins, VA 23076. Yarian is serving in the Coast Guard. Ms. Yarian recently wrote to The Herald, thanking readers for Christmas cards they sent: "It is hard being away from your family and friends around the holidays when you're in the military. I hope you all have a great 2003. Thanks again for all of your holiday greetings and prayers."

   » Pfc. Matthew Merrill, HHC 1-77 AR, Unit 26007 Box 15, APO AE 09226. Merrill's parents write: "We support his desire to serve 100 percent. Stationed in Germany at present, he volunteered for action in Saudi Arabia but has yet to be sent. Although many strangers have written to him in the past several months, he regrets that he has been unable to answer their notes but has appreciated them and says other soldiers do as well. Please pray for peace."

   » Staff Sgt. Reynaldo Rivera, HQ MACS1 UIC 41051 SPO HE 96614-1051. R. Rivera of Doyline, La., writes: "I am a former resident of the Shenango Valley and my son has been sent over to points unknown. He would like to hear from anyone! Thanks and I hope to hear from him soon."

Hi again. I would like to submit my son Nathan DiClaudio's mailing address and email address.

Nathan is in the Marine Corps at Miramar (San Diego) Marine Corps Air Station. He is a Lance Corporal. He is in the 3rd Marine Corps Air Wing and is a helicopter mechanic on the CH-53.
