Man wielding double-edged sword
arrested

A man with a sword gave Sharon police trouble Friday night after they were called to a disturbance, they said.

Police said they were called to the 400 block of South Dock Street at about 6:30 p.m. and found Patrick Stumpf, 20, of 490 S. Dock St., Apartment 3, with a 30-inch, double-edge sword strapped to his waist. Stumpf was aggressive and swung at the patrolmen, police said.

Police took Stumpf to the ground, wrestled with him and used pepper spray to subdue him, they said. Once handcuffed, Stumpf kicked at the patrolmen, tried to kick out the windows of the cruiser and banged his head against the car windows, police said.

Stumpf also had two folding knives in his jacket, police said.

He was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and carrying a prohibited offense weapon, police said.
