Windsor House Inc., own-
er and operator of 11 nursing
homes and three assisted-liv-
ing communities in North-
east Ohio and Western Penn-
sylvania, expanded its
services in 2011 to meet de-
mand and plans are calling
for the same in 2012.
Those demands have in-
creased for those who need
short-term rehabilitation and
assisted For Windsor House.
The company’s newest
short-term rehabilitation unit
opened in
the fall of
2011. Liber-
ty Health
Care Center
in Liberty
Township expanded by
11,500 square feet to im-
prove short-term therapy.
The 16 private suites feature
flat screen televisions, private
showers, phones and Inter-
net access.
The therapy room is filled
with the latest therapy equip-
ment, including a Chevy
Cruze.
“The Cruze was pur-
chased to help patients re-
gain their strength and abili-
ty to perform tasks healthy
people take for granted, such
as opening and closing car
doors or getting in and out
of vehicles,” said John Mas-
ternick, president and CEO
of Windsor House.
“Since we send so many
people home, we do a lot of
work with people getting in
and out of the car, in and out
of the back seat,” he added.
The therapy addition also
consists of a remodeled
apartment with a bedroom,
bathroom and kitchen to re-
acclimate the patient to the
home environment.
In 2011, O’Brien Memorial
Health Care Center also saw
an increase in patients who
require short-term therapy.
Nursing homes today are be-
coming more of a rehabilita-
tion destination and the mid-
dle point between hospitals
and home.
Many patients require ad-
ditional care and short term
rehabilitation after leaving
the hospital but before re-
turning home. Located with-
in O’Brien Memorial Health
Care Center, a wing is dedi-
cated solely for those in need
of this transitional care. The
short term therapy unit can
provide care for many ortho-
pedic procedures as
hip/knee replacements, rota-
tor cuff surgeries and frac-
tures.
In addition to general or-
thopedic care we also pro-
vide extended medical care,
wound care, and cardio-pul-
monary rehabilitation. Our
goal is to return patients to
their normal living environ-
ment as soon and safely as
possible.
“Our industry used to be
known as the place you went
to live out the rest of your
life, but that’s changing,” said
