Today's obituaries Lee W. Gunn Farrell man was WWII vet, worked at Sharon Steel Funeral will be Thursday for Lee W. Gunn, 1018 Beechwood Ave., Farrell, who died at 7:57 p.m. Friday (12-22-00) in Oakland Veterans Administration Hospital, Pittsburgh, due to a heart ailment. He was 78. Mr. Gunn was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Taladega, Ala. to Charlie and Feany Williams Gunn. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II. Mr. Gunn worked at Sharon Steel Corp.'s former Farrell plant. He was a member of Community Baptist Church, Farrell. Surviving are: a daughter, Mary Lee Taul, Robeline, La.; two sisters, Ollie Borders, Farrell and Aleane Gunn, Cleveland; seven grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and his caregiver and nephew, Billy Gunn, Farrell. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillie Gaddis and Mamie Willis.
GUNN Betty June McKay Homemaker was member of Center Presbyterian Church Betty June McKay, 186 Cranberry Road, Grove City, died at 5 p.m. Friday (12-22-00) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township after a year-long illness. She was 73. Mrs. McKay was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Franklin, to Max P. and Bertha Mae Dilley Dailey. A homemaker, she was a member of Center Presbyterian Church, Grove City. Her husband, Leo R. "Tim" McKay, whom she married Dec. 1, 1942, died Dec. 20, 1985. Surviving are: a daughter, Patricia Ann Clark, Cochranton, Pa.; two sons, Leo R. McKay Jr., Atlantic, Pa. and Robert W. McKay, Grove City; four sisters, Betty Dailey, Franklin; Julia Minnick, Meadville; Mrs. Richard (Dixie L.) Thompson, Grove City; Mrs. Robert (Sandra) Scheer, Franklin; five brothers, Max P. Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.; Bill, Oil City; Donald, Richard A. and James E., all of Grove City; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
MCKAY William J. Meeker Ohio man worked at Delphi Packard, was sportsman William J. Meeker, 5221 Cadawallader-Sonk Road, Fowler, died Friday afternoon (12-22-00) of hypothermia after falling through the ice while fishing on Pymatuning Lake. He was 59. Mr. Meeker was born Sept. 23, 1941 in Warren, Ohio, to John F. and Gladys Winans Meeker. He was a 1961 graduate of Fowler High School. A tow motor driver, Mr. Meeker had been employed for 30 years at Delphi Packard Electric Systems, Warren, Ohio. He was a member of Fowler Community Church. Mr. Meeker was a member of the Fowler Grange. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Cleveland Indians fan. Surviving are: his wife, the former Marilyn Hamrick, whom he married Aug. 15, 1965; two daughters, Leasa Meeker-Matheny, Southington, Ohio and Sharon Wilbanks, Niles; a son, Robert Meeker, Parma, Ohio; a sister, Carol Meeker, Cortland; and a brother, Edward R. Meeker, Mecca, Ohio; and a grandson. Memorial contributions may be made to Fowler Community Church, 4651 state Route 305, Fowler, Ohio 44418.
MEEKER Andrew J. "Rip" Repas Hermitage man flew B-17s, was POW and bricklayer Andrew J. "Rip" Repas, 211 S. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday (12-22-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, of cancer. He was 83. Mr. Repas was born July 15, 1917, in Farrell, to Michael and Mary Repas Repas. He was a 1933 graduate of Farrell High School. A decorated war veteran, Mr. Repas enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 then transferred to the Army Air Corps. A B-17 bomber pilot, he was a 1st Lieutenant of the 331st Squadron of the 94th Bomb Group stationed at Bury Saint Edmunds, England. Mr. Repas was shot down on his 16th mission on Feb. 10, 1944 over Brunswick, Germany and captured two days later. He became a prisoner of war for 15 months until his release on May 12, 1945 and was discharged in November of that same year. He received the Air Medal, Wings, 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, POW Medal and the Victory Medal. A bricklayer by trade, he retired in 1987 as a field superintendent for Guniting and Allied Inc. of Carnegie, Pa. where he had worked for 40 years. Mr. Repas was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell and the Bricklayers Local Union of Pittsburgh. Mr. Repas was a former member of the German Home Club, Farrell. He enjoyed gardening as well as watching and feeding birds at his home. Surviving are: his wife at home, the former, Loretta M. Parola, whom he married Feb. 7, 1946; a daughter, Mrs. James F. (Karen L.), Zorzi, Hermitage; two sons, Mark J., at home and Richard L., Sharon; two sisters, Cecelia Light, Sharon and Elizabeth Rankin, Eustus, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a son, Drew; two sisters, Emma Sudzina and Mary Yurko; and two brothers, Hank and Michael Repas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Notre Dame School Building Fund, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage, 16148.
REPAS Florence Ann Santell Hermitage woman owned pair of beauty shops Florence Ann Santell, 6922 E. State St., Hermitage, died Friday evening (12-22-00) in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 86. Mrs. Santell was born April 11, 1914, in Farrell, to George and Elita Pacurar Curtician. A graduate of the former Wilmar Beauty School, Sharon, she owned and operated Santell Beauty Shops in Sharon and Hermitage. Mrs. Santell was a member of St. Ann's Church, Farrell. Surviving are: her husband John Santell, whom she married July 12, 1935, at home; two daughters, Alice Haun, Hermitage and Patricia Muenzer, Upper Marlboro, Md.; a brother Cornell Curtician, Akron, Ohio; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly D. Haun; a sister, Helen Podea; and two brothers, John and Danny Curtician.
