Today's obituaries Andy Zigo Jr. Ex-GATX worker belonged to Immaculate Heart of Mary Andy Zigo Jr., 10 Old Fredonia Road, Coolspring Township, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after an extended illness. He was 77. Mr. Zigo was born July 4, 1924, in Mercer to Andrew Zigo Sr. and Katherine Cimbalik Zigo. He was employed for 19 years at General American Transportation Corp.'s former Masury plant, where he was a crane operator. Mr. Zigo was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Mercer, where he was an usher for more than 25 years. Surviving are: his wife, the former Marcella Kosmowski, whom he married June 9, 1951, at the residence; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Pamela) Rodemoyer, Hermitage; two sons, Andrew Ronald Zigo, at home; and Daniel Philip Zigo and his wife Lisa, Hermitage; and a brother, Frank Zigo and his wife Etta, Mercer. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Lockhart; a brother, Rudy Zigo; and two nephews, David and Duane Lockhart.
ZIGO Edith L. Rock Retiree of Brookfield Diner belonged to Vienna church WARREN, Ohio -- Edith L. Rock, 1380 Arbor Ave. SE, Warren, died at 7 a.m. Saturday (11-10-01) in St. Joseph's Health Center. She was 86. Mrs. Rock was born Dec. 20, 1914, in Fredonia, a daughter of Milton S. and Maude L. Wheaton Wagner. She had been employed as a manager and a waitress at the Brookfield Diner for many years, retiring in 1987. Mrs. Rock was a member of Liberty Bible Church in Vienna. Her husband, Thomas Rock, whom she married Aug. 16, 1971, died Sept. 1, 1991. Survivors include: two daughters, Margaret Pappa, Punta Gorda, Fla.; and Joann Milani, Brookfield; five grandchildren, Butch and Jeff Pappa; Angela Lockwood; and Scott and Elizabeth Milani; and nine great-grandchildren, B.J., Timothy, Athena, Mark, Pam, Josh and Kyle Pappa; and Tori and Brooke Milani. Besides her husband, Mrs. Rock was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Harold Wagner.

SEGER Harold E. Conner Harold E. Conner, 132 Center Church Road, Pine Township, died at 8:10 p.m. Sunday (11-11-01) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. He was 71. Obituary information was incomplete.
CONNER Rocco 'Rocky' J. DeRose Sharon Steel retiree formerly of Farrell was WWII veteran Rocco "Rocky" J. DeRose, Hermitage, formerly of Emerson Avenue, Farrell, died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. He was 84. Mr. DeRose was born Jan. 6, 1917, in Farrell to John and Angeline Scardillo DeRose. He retired as a ram driver from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant. An Army veteran, Mr. DeRose served in the India-Burma Campaign during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 299 in Sharon. He also belonged to Holy Trinity Church in Farrell. Surviving are: a brother, Anthony DeRose, Clearwater, Fla.; and a longtime friend, Mary Tarcy, Farrell. Mr. DeRose was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Angelo DeRose.
DeROSE Mary Louise Matsko Valles Ex-Hermitage homemaker belonged to St. Ann's Church Mary Louise Matsko Valles, Coolspring Township, formerly of Hermitage, died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in Woodland Place, Coolspring Township, following a lengthy illness. She was 87. Mrs. Valles was born Dec. 23, 1913, in Farrell to Michael and Anna Fedorchak Matsko. She worked at one time for Charlie's Pizza Shop in West Middlesex. A homemaker, Mrs. Valles was a member of St. Ann's Church in Farrell. Her husband, Daniel A. Valles, whom she married May 7, 1935, died Dec. 10, 1967. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. James (Anita) Dixon, Hermitage; two sons, Daniel Valles, La Mesa, Calif.; and Eugene Valles, El Cajon, Calif.; three sisters, Rosemary Fiscella, Hampton, Va.; Rita Clark, Green Bay, Wis.; and Velma Malcolmson, Hermitage; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Valles was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Clara Machuga; and six brothers, William, Carl, Vincent, Raymond, Daniel and Charles Matsko.
VALLES Mary Louise Weiser Sears retiree was charter member of Good Shepherd Mary Louise Weiser, 3346 Hubbard-West Middlesex Road, Shenango Township, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, in her residence from Parkinson's Disease. She was 76. Mrs. Weiser was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Youngstown to Frank and Clara Lapchansky Lisovitch. She was a graduate of Sharon High School Class of 1942. Mrs. Weiser passed a test to work for the government in 1942 and, because she was not yet 18 years old, worked as a doctor's secretary until the age of 18. She worked for the Bureau of Employment Services in Sharon; the Veterans Administration in Sharon and Erie; and as a secretary for Max Krish, a bricklayer, who laid bricks for the old Sharon High School building. Mrs. Weiser retired in 1984 after 20 years from Sears in the Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, where she was a personnel manager. As a charter member of Church of the Good Shepherd in West Middlesex, she belonged to the Altar Rosary Society; the church choir; and was in charge of dinners held to help raise money for the church Building Fund. Surviving are: her husband, Harold R. Weiser, whom she married May 21, 1949, at home; three daughters, Marilyn L., wife of Donald Hatfield, Little Rock, Ark.; Faye Ann Weiser, Pueblo, Colo.; and Janine M., wife of Kevin Ballish, Apollo, Pa.; three sons, Paul R. Weiser and his wife Karen, Rifle, Colo.; Raymond F. Weiser, Transfer; and Harold James Weiser and his wife Andrea, Vandergrift, Pa.; a brother, Richard Lisovitch, Yankee Lake; and five grandchildren. WEISER Robert W. Whiston WWII vet, steelworker was PennDOT retiree, Calif.-born Robert W. Whiston, 1773 Grove City-Sandy Lake Road, Worth Township, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, in Trinity Living Center, Grove City, following an extended illness. He was 83. Mr. Whiston was born Feb. 26, 1918, in Stockton, Calif., to Frank Pierce Whiston and Minnie May Klench Whiston. He retired after eight years as foreman for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Mercer and was formerly employed as a steelworker for more than 35 years in Ambridge. Mr. Whiston was a Protestant. An Army veteran, he was a sergeant in Battery A of the 591st Field Artillery Battalion during World War II, having served in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Service Stars. Mr. Whiston enjoyed his Airdale dogs. His wife, the former Mary Louise Davis, whom he married July 6, 1956, died Jan. 24, 1997. A brother, Frank K. Whiston, survives in Albuquerque, N.M. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Elizabeth Larson.
WHISTON Viola A. Grolemund Ex-Brookfield homemaker had daughter in Hubbard YOUNGSTOWN -- Viola A. Grolemund of 3245 Vestal Road, Youngstown, formerly of Brookfield, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday (11-10-01) in Omni Manor Nursing Home. She was 84. Mrs. Grolemund was born June 28, 1917, in Fryburg, Clarion County, a daughter of Allie and Mary Schill Hartel. A homemaker for her entire life, Viola graduated from the former Shippenville (Pa.) High School in 1935 and attended St. Bernadette's Church in Masury and St. Patrick's Church, Hubbard. While at St. Bernadette's, Viola was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. In her spare time, Viola enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was also known for her baking. Her husband, Francis J. Grolemund, whom she married Aug. 16, 1945, died Feb. 12, 1999. Surviving are: twin sons, Gary Grolemund, Girard, Ohio; and Larry Grolemund, Warren, Ohio; two daughters, Yvonne Turco, Newton Falls, Ohio; and Cheryl Beil, Hubbard; one sister, Margaret "Peg" McClelland, Franklin; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Grolemund; two brothers, Alloysius and Charles Hartel; and two sisters, Caroline Irwin and Mary Hartel. GROLEMUND Tony T. Antonino Area musician taught lessons, retired from Sharon Steel Tony T. Antonino, 926 Norris Ave., Farrell, died Saturday morning (11-10-01) in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. He was 78. Mr. Antonino was born March 20, 1923, in Oliver No. 1, Pa., to Filippo and Filomena DiMarcello Antonino. He graduated in 1940 from the former North Union Township High School, Uniontown. A private first class in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1944 to 1946, he received three medals, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal and Victory Medal. Mr. Antonino was an electrician for Sharon Steel Corp.'s former Farrell plant, retiring in 1983 after 37 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. Mr. Antonino was a member of American Federation of Musicians, Sharon Local 187, where he was secretary for 15 years; New Castle Local 27; and Warren, Ohio, Local 118. In addition, he was a member of Shenango Valley Italian-American War Veterans; First Italian Social Club, Farrell; American Legion Post 160, Farrell; United Steelworkers of America; Sharon Steel Retirees; and the Penn-Ohio Polka Pals. Mr. Antonino taught accordion lessons at Marks Music Store and was the accordion player in the local group "The Three Notes." He enjoyed working in his garden and Italian music. Surviving are: his wife, the former Florence D. Gulino, whom he married June 18, 1949; two daughters, Nancy A. (M. Brian) Biggins, Hermitage; and Linda Wheaton and her companion Richard Lockovich, Farrell; a son, Phillip Antonino, Lt. Col., United States Marine Corps, and his wife, Sylvia, Hampstead, N.C.; a sister, Violet Moldovan, Hermitage; two brothers, John, Hermitage; and Daniel, Las Vegas; seven grandchildren, Rory Patrick and Michael Brendan Biggins; Melynda Wheaton Habib; James A. Wheaton; and Phillip Tony, Kelly and Alex Antonino; and a great grandchild, Hayden Anthony Wheaton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank, San Antonio; a sister, Concetta Antonino; and a grandchild, Brendan Patrick Biggins.
