Janet B. Allen Sharon woman was active in St. John's Episcopal Janet B. Allen, 419 Columbia St. in Sharon, died Tuesday evening (2-19-02) in her residence following a brief illness. She was 77. Miss Allen was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Sharon, a daughter of Robert P. and Lavina Woods Allen. She was a 1943 graduate of Sharon High School. As an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sharon, Miss Allen belonged to the Altar Guild for many years and was a member of the Women's Group; Tuesday Sewing Group; and Tuesday Night Supper Club. She was also a volunteer for Episcopal Community Services and assisted in the parish office on numerous occasions. Miss Allen had been employed as a dental assistant at the former Camp Reynolds Army camp. She is survived by a sister, Margaret "Peg" J. Allen, with whom she made her home. Miss Allen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frederick C. Allen. ALLEN Mildred M. Bardelick Former Sharon homemaker belonged to St. Ann's Church A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday for Mildred M. Bardelick, The Overlook nursing home, New Wilmington, formerly of 921 Bechtol Ave., Sharon. She died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday (2-20-02) in the hospital of Jameson Health System, New Castle. She was 82. Mrs. Bardelick was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Sharpsville to Vincent and Julia Magullo Stransky. She attended Farrell schools and was a homemaker, Mrs. Bardelick was a member of St. Ann's Church in Farrell; Catholic Daughters of the Americas Sharon Court 507; and the Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286 in Farrell. Her husband, Andrew C. Bardelick, whom she married in June 1940, died March 30, 1968. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Julianne) Jara, Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Ann Notar, Farrell; and Mrs. Joseph (Marge) Maraz, Campbell, Ohio; and two granddaughters, Judy and Jennifer Jara, Marietta. Besides her husband, Mrs. Bardelick was preceded in death by four brothers, Cyril, Matthew, George and Albert Stransky; and a sister, Stella Serriani.
BARDELICK Shirley Ann Bell Butler County native was homemaker, played guitar Shirley Ann Bell of Hermitage passed away unexpectedly at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. She was 65. Born May 18, 1936, in Branchton, Butler County, Shirley was a daughter of the late James Milo Bell Sr. and Edith M. Hogg Bell. She attended Butler County public schools and had been employed earlier in her life in the housekeeping department of what is now Sharon Regional Health System. Shirley was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed playing the guitar and had successfully completed the Bronson Professional Course of Study. Shirley also enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. She also used to write articles in the mid- to late-1950s for the Slippery Rock Signal called the "Branchton Items." A devoted mother, Shirley leaves one daughter, Robin Suzanne Bell and her fiance, William Douglass McKenzie, both at home; and one sister, Norma Grossman, Grove City, formerly of Harrisville. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Orrie Elizabeth Bennington and Alda May Bell; and two brothers, James Milo Bell Jr. and Kenneth H. Bell. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the funeral home to the Shenango Valley Children's Transplant Fund.
BELL Ruth Combine Ruth Combine, 2724 Morefield Road, Hermitage, died at 8:15 a.m. today (2-21-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 71. Obituary information was incomplete.
COMBINE William A. Hudson Retired grocery manager was Mason, Sharon church elder A funeral service will be held Saturday for William A. Hudson, 1580 Orangeville Road, Hermitage. He died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in his home of natural causes after an extended illness. He was 88. Mr. Hudson was born Nov. 22, 1913, in Pleasant Unity, Pa., to Harry L. Hudson and Mary Pearl Wagner Hudson. A 1931 graduate of Latrobe (Pa.) High School, he retired in 1974 as a grocery manager from the former Valu-King grocery store in Hubbard. After his retirement, Mr. Hudson worked part-time at Market Inventory Services in Youngstown. He was a member of Scottish Rite's New Castle Consistory; and Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 250, Sharon. He also belonged to Covenant Presbyterian Church, also Sharon, where he served as a deacon and elder. Mr. Hudson was a charter member of the Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his family very much. Surviving are: his wife, the former Margaret A. Barron, whom he married Nov. 27, 1938, at home; a daughter, Judith Anzalone, wife of Albert, Boardman, Ohio; four sons, the Rev. William H. Hudson, husband of Betty, Cadiz, Ohio; Thomas D. Hudson; and Dr. Richard A. Hudson, husband of Brenda, all Athens, Ga.; and John "Jack" D. Hudson, Comer, Ga.; a sister, Bess Campbell, Pleasant Unity; a brother, Harry M. Hudson, husband of Dorothy, Latrobe; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Linda Jane Hudson; an infant son, Robert Clark Hudson; three brothers, Fred W. Hudson, Edwin E. Hudson and John P. Hudson; and a sister, Helen Welty. Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Regional Health System's Hospice Home Care, 490 N. HUDSON Vincent Greenawalt Vincent Greenawalt, 1356 Park St., Sharon, died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday (2-20-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 83. Obituary information was incomplete.
GREENAWALT F. Carl Koppel Retired electrical engineer was active in WM church F. Carl Koppel died at 7 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township, after an extended illness. He was 82 years old. Mr. Koppel was born May 5, 1919, in Franklin to Fredrick and Elizabeth Finley Koppel. He was a graduate of Franklin High School and earned an associate's degree from Youngstown State University. Mr. Koppel was a retired electrical engineer. He married Betty M. Frazier Koppel on May 17, 1941. Mr. Koppel is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Sandy) Ross; and Mrs. George (Linda) Osborne; and two sons, Ted Koppel and his wife, Kate; and Thomas Koppel and his wife, Brenda. He has nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Hermitage 810. Mr. Koppel was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter, Christine Penrose; one brother, Richard Koppel; and both parents. He was an active member of West Middlesex United Methodist Church. He has donated his body to medical research. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, in West Middlesex United Methodist Church, 3123 Main St. All donations will be to West Middlesex United Methodist Church.
John Reed Jr. Sharon Steel retiree, Air Force vet, served in Reserves A funeral service will be held Saturday for John Reed, 1296 French St. Extension, Hermitage. He died at noon Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 70. Mr. Reed was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Sharon to John Reed Sr. and Minnie L. Coleman Reed. A 1950 graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage, he retired in 1994 after 43 years of service from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he was an engineer. Mr. Reed also worked for F.M. Martuccio Inc. in Hermitage. He was a member and former deacon of Second Baptist Church in Farrell. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Mr. Reed served during the Korean conflict and in the Army Reserves from 1957-65 and from 1981-91. He was a member of Twin City Elks Lodge 187; Calumet Lodge; and Veterans of Foreign Wars New Murray Bell Post 7597, all Farrell; and the Human Relations Board of Hermitage. Surviving are: his wife, the former Sara Woodson, whom he married Nov. 24, 1955, at home; four sons, Glenn L. Reed, Palm Springs, Calif.; Gary L. Reed and his wife Yalonda, Atlanta; John Reed III and his wife Denise, Jonesboro, Ga.; and James R. Reed and his wife Leilani, Winston-Salem, N.C.; two daughters, Belinda Shannon and her husband Keith, Raleigh, N.C; and Robin Reed, at home; one brother, Percy E. Reed and his wife Claudine, Hermitage; two sisters, Katherine Norman, Sharon; and Alberta McDonald and her husband Sidney, New Castle; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debbie Hosch; a grandson; and a sister, Loretta Reed.
REED Ruth Eileen Osborne Norcross Retired UCH nurse's aide, clerk had worked for school Ruth Eileen Osborne Norcross, 123 W. Poplar St., Grove City, formerly of Centertown Road, Wolf Creek Township, died at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a six-month illness. She was 66. Mrs. Norcross was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Grove City to Merle Edward Osborne and Ella Gertrude Byerly Osborne. She retired in 1994 after 23 years of service from United Community Hospital, Pine Township, where she was a nurse's aide and materials management clerk. Mrs. Norcross was employed from 1994 to November of 2001 at Allegheny Valley School of Slippery Rock as a house manager aide. She was a member of Hebron Community Church in Polk; the auxiliaries to Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 327, Sharon; and American Legion Post 220, Grove City; and also belonged to Victory Community League of Venango County. Surviving are: her husband, Ronald R. Norcross, whom she married Dec. 14, 1953, at the residence; four children, Veronica Lee Norcross, Mrs. Richard (Gloria Jean) Hockenberry, Gayle Lynn Knight and David Bruce Norcross, all Grove City; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Norcross was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Beverly Ann Norcross; and one brother, Richard D. Osborne.
NORCROSS Shirley A. Shank Lackawannock Twp. crafter was ex-manager for company A funeral service will be held Friday for Shirley A. Shank, 2319 Mercer-West Middlesex Road, Lackawannock Township. She died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center after an extended illness. She was 64. Mrs. Shank was born April 19, 1937, in Ellwood City to Raymond Hoover and Margarette McCloskey. She graduated from Ellwood City High School in 1955 and worked for Tri-Chem as a regional manager for 15 years. Mrs. Shank later went into the craft business, traveling to sell her crafts. She enjoyed going to many local craft shows and flea markets. Her husband, Logan Shank, whom she married Jan 1, 1965, died Nov. 29, 2000. Surviving are: one son, Michael P. Shank, Masury; three sisters, Jessie V. Berkobile, Coppell, Pa.; Sally L. Crespo, Fredonia; and Martha "Molly" Prestopine, Ellwood City; three grandchildren, Luke Shank and Jace Shank, both Masury; and Kara Shank, Pittsburgh; and one great-grandson, Nathanial Shank, Masury. Besides her husband, Mrs. Shank was preceded in death her father; her mother, Margarette Swogger; and by a son, Randy Eugene Shank.
SHANK Stephen E. Wright Stephen E. Wright, 415 Delaware St., Sharon, died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday (2-20-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 58. Obituary information was incomplete.
