Margaret 'Peg' J. Allen Active St. John's Episcopal member was bridge player Margaret "Peg" J. Allen, of 419 Columbia St. in Sharon, died at 11:36 p.m. Saturday (2-23-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following a long illness. She was 84. Miss Allen was born March 21, 1917, in Sharon, a daughter of Robert P. and Lavina Woods Allen. She was a 1935 graduate of Sharon High School. As an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sharon, Miss Allen was a member of the Altar Guild for many years; the Tuesday Night Supper Club; Tuesday Sewing Group; the ECW, a women's group; and was a volunteer in the parish office in various capacities. She also served as a regular volunteer for the Episcopal Community Service Food Bank; and volunteered for the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. Miss Allen thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge and participated in many benefit bridge marathons. She had been employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. as a clerk in the purchasing department for 45 years, retiring in 1982. Her only sister, Janet B. Allen, with whom she lived, died this past Tuesday, Feb. 19. Miss Allen leaves several cousins. Besides her sister, Miss Allen was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Frederick C. Allen. ALLEN Dorothy Thomas Dorothy Thomas, Seneca Road, Sharpsville, died today (2-25-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 73. Obituary information was incomplete.
THOMAS Anne P. Bubrick Sharon woman belonged to St. John's Episcopal Church Anne P. Bubrick, resident of Shenango Inn and formerly of 329 Carley Ave., both Sharon, died at 7:08 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 79. Mrs. Bubrick was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Niles, Ohio, to Anton and Louise Von Nestor Pelsh. She graduated from Brookfield High School and attended the former Shenango Valley Business College for two years. Mrs. Bubrick worked for 35 years at the former Youngstown Sheet and Tube, where she was executive secretary to the vice president of the legal department. She retired upon the plant's shutdown. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Sharon, where she belonged to the Episcopal Church Women group and was a former member of the Altar Guild. She was married to John Bubrick. Surviving are: five nephews, John Cifer, Sharon; John and his wife Betty Pelsh, Sacramento, Calif.; Bruce and his wife, Christian Pelsh; and Brian Pelsh, all Hermitage; and Mark and his wife Laura Pelsh, Carolina Beach, N.C. Mrs. Bubrick was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Cifer and Olga Pelsh; and two brothers, John and Walter Pelsh. Memorial contributions may be made to Altar Guild or the Memorial Fund of St. John's Episcopal Church, both 226 W. State St., Sharon 16146.
BUBRICK Michael John Changnon SRU photography prof was Pittsburgh art fest judge Michael John Changnon, 67 Hummel Blvd., Grove City, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, in his residence after an extended illness. He was 58. Mr. Changnon was born April 5, 1943, in Los Angeles to Robert and Gertrude Hartleben Changnon. He was a graduate of Ohio University in Athens, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in photography and a master's of fine arts in painting and ithography. A well-known tri-state artist, Mr. Changnon was a professor of art at Slippery Rock University for 34 years. He also taught photography and drawing with the Pennsylvania Governor's School at Mercyhurst College in Erie. In his early years, he was a news photographer at the Delaware (Ohio) Gazette. Mr. Changnon was a member of Carnegie Museum and Zenith Gallery, both Pittsburgh; Meadville Council of the Arts; and was a member of Pittsburgh Associated Artists, where he formerly served on the board. He was an exhibitor and judge for the Three Rivers Art Festival in Pittsburgh. Mr. Changnon was a member of Christian Science Society of Grove City; and the First Christian Science Church in Boston. His works, drawing, photographs and pastels are contained in many private and public art collections in the Pittsburgh area, as well as throughout the U.S. Surviving are: his wife, the former Susan Jean Hetherington, whom he married July 27, 1974, at the residence; two children, Launa Nicole Changnon and Marc Robert Changnon, both Grove City; his mother; and one brother, Gary L. Changnon and his wife Mary Kay, all Concord, Ohio. Mr. Changnon was preceded in death by his father; and one sister, Carol Ann Changnon. CHANGNON Reatha Katherine Wilson Ordained elder had been longtime area school teacher A funeral service will be held Tuesday for Reatha Katherine Wilson, Hempfield Township, formerly of Cochran Road, Delaware Township, and The Ridgewood, 339 E. Jamestown Road, Greenville. She died at 11:52 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township. She was 90. Mrs. Wilson was born March 1, 1911, in Woodlawn, Pa., a daughter of the late George A. and Margaret Elizabeth McConnell Clay. On Dec. 27, 1934, she married Floyd L. Wilson, who preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1992. Mrs. Wilson was a graduate of the former Slippery Rock Normal School and had been a school teacher for Reynolds and Lakeview school districts for many years. She was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Mercer, where she was active in various women's organizations within the church. Mrs. Wilson was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian church. She enjoyed spending winter months with her husband in St. Petersburg, Fla. for 17 years. Mrs. Wilson was a very avid gardener and enjoyed utilizing her talents in raising a variety of plants. She is survived by: two daughters, Mrs. Leon (Kathryn) Ferguson, Fredonia; and Mrs. Gerald (Margaret) Laird, Jamestown; a sister, Dora Cozad, Mercer; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Carl E. Splitstone Carl E. Splitstone, 184 Lyle Drive, Hermitage, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday (2-24-02) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. He was 77. Obituary information was incomplete.
