John 'Jack' Brenneman
Greenville man was

councilman, veteran

John "Jack" H. Brenneman, 372 S. Main St., Greenville, died at 9:25 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, following a brief illness. He was 78.

Mr. Brenneman was born Nov. 1, 1924, in Jefferson, Ohio, to Addison R. Brenneman and Lucille Joiner Brenneman.

A graduate of Jefferson High School, he attended Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio.

He was a self-employed wholesale lumber dealer since purchasing the P.M. Frampton Lumber Co. of Greenville in 1952. He then formed the J.B. Lumber Co., which he operated from his home until he retired in 1995. Mr. Brenneman served on Greenville Borough Council for eight years and was president for two years. He was on the Shade Tree Commission for several years; the Greenville Sanitary Authority for many years, for which he was a past chairman; he served on the Greenville School Board for two years, as well as on the election board for the Third Ward.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-45 in the European and Pacific theaters of operation.

He was a past president of the Greenville Business Men's Association and was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 145; and American Legion Post 140, both Greenville; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Hempfield Township. As a very active member of the Greenville Lions Club, he was president from 1965-66, during which time Pancake Day originated. He was also a zone chairman; regional chairman; district governor from 1975-76; chairman of the Pennsylvania State Council from 1976-77; and on the State Liaison Committee from 1977-80. He was awarded the International Presidents Award in 1982.

He was a volunteer at Greenville Area Public Library and a tour guide at Railroad Park #604.

His wife, the former Janet C. Case, whom he married March 9, 1946, died on Jan. 24, 1997.

Surviving are: a daughter, Jann B. Gaugh, Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Jerry D. Brenneman, Greenville; and Jeffrey J. Brenneman, Pittsburgh; a sister, Wilda Spencer, Dorset, Ohio; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Audrey Brenneman; and a brother, Roger Brenneman.

Kevin F. Friedrich
St. Joseph member was Westinghouse retiree

Kevin F. Friedrich, 102 Euclid Ave., Sharon, passed away at 6:33 p.m. Saturday (11-30-02) in the hospital of Jameson Health System, New Castle. He was 74.

Mr. Friedrich was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Sharon, a son of Daniel J. Friedrich and Anna Walsh Friedrich.

A lifelong resident of Sharon, he attended the former Sacred Heart Parochial Grade School in Sharon and was a 1946 graduate of Sharon High School. He also graduated from Carnegie Technical Institute, now Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He later went on to earn his master's degree from the University of Akron.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Friedrich retired in 1983 as manager of quality assurance at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he had been employed for more than 25 years.

Having begun his career as a design engineer, he rose through the ranks of employment with increasing responsibility, prior to his retirement. He received several patents for his work in the field of engineering.

He was a registered professional engineer for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Following his retirement, Mr. Friedrich was an instructor in electrical technology for six years at the Shenango campus of Pennsylvania State University in Sharon.

Attending Mass daily, Mr. Friedrich was an active member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon, where he was a Eucharistic minister; and an instructor for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults; and Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. He also conducted First Friday home visits and was a former member of Parish Council, where he served as president numerous times.

Mr. Friedrich also belonged to Knights of Columbus Council 684 in Sharon; Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers; and Westinghouse Retirees Association.

He was an avid bowler and golfer, participating in the Westinghouse Golf League at the VFW Golf Course and Hickory Bowl, both Hermitage.

He was extremely devoted to his family and attended all of his grandchildren's scholastic and athletic affairs.

His wife, the former Mary Siwiecki, whom he married on July 17, 1954 in Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon, passed away on July 24, 1995.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mary Ann Ritchey, wife of Nathan, Sharon; and Paula J. Resnak, wife of Bruce, Carlisle, Pa.; two sons, Kevin M. Friedrich and his wife Cathy, Cranberry Township, Butler County; and Brian K. Friedrich and his wife Heidi, Shenango Township; and three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Helen) Stewart; Rosemary Colt; and Mrs. John (Nancy) Sankovich, all Sharon.

He also leaves: 14 grandchildren, Jessica and Alex Resnak; Margy, Katie, Sarah and Nathan Ritchey; Emily, Brian, and Jacob Friedrich; Kevin, Ian and Cassidy Friedrich; Chad and Danielle Winebrenner; and a great-grandson, Trevor Checkan.

Besides his wife, Mr. Friedrich was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers, Robert, William, Edward, Charles, Raymond, John and Daniel Friedrich.

H. William Birch Jr., 33 State St., Greenville, died at 1:31 p.m. Sunday (12-1-02) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 87.

Charles Wayne Miller

Volant man owned store, helped found fire dept.

Charles Wayne Miller, Volant RD 3, died on Saturday (11-30-02) in his residence. He was 89.

Mr. Miller was born June 18, 1913, in Volant to Nickolas C. Miller and Rose Donzella Oard Miller.

A graduate of the former Volant High School, he was the self-employed owner for 32 years of Miller's General Store in Volant. Mr. Miller was also a union carpenter, a millwright and a former owner of M&M Oil Co. of Clintonville.

He was a member of the water company and a charter member and founder of Volant Fire Department. He also served on the board of Volant Cemetery.

Mr. Miller was active with Volant Lions Club and belonged to Leesburg Presbyterian Church. As a former member of Volant Presbyterian Church, he was an elder and trustee and taught Sunday school for more than 50 years.

He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 642 in New Castle.

His wife, the former Hazel Lucille Litzenberg, whom he married on June 15, 1939, survives at the residence.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Kathryn Adams and her husband Herbert, Beaver; and Nancy Gargasz and her husband Fred, Volant; six sons, Charles LeRoy Miller and his wife Ceil, New Wilmington; Samuel Miller and his wife Barb, Volant; Terry Miller and his wife Ruth Ann, Rochester, Ind.; William L. Miller and his wife Gail, New Wilmington; James Miller and his wife Shirley, New Castle; and Randall Miller and his wife Deborah, Volant; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Vincent J. Monteleone

GC man as sales rep, U.S. veteran in two branches

Vincent J. Monteleone, a 47-year resident of 151 Edgewood Ave., Grove City, died at 5:20 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the Franklin campus of UPMC following a brief illness. He was 76.

Mr. Monteleone was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Grove City to Dominick Monteleone and Lena Macri Monteleone.

A graduate of Grove City High School Class of 1944, he retired in 1990 from Spatola Wines Inc. of Downingtown, Pa., where he was a sales representative for 25 years. Previously he was a sales representative for 10 years at National Distillers.

Mr. Monteleone was a U.S. veteran, having served in the Navy during World War II, and in the Army during the Korean conflict.

He was a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple; and Knights of Columbus Council 3658, both Grove City; and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Franklin.

His wife, the former Dorothy Ledwith, whom he married on April 23, 1952, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Linda Swift, Edinboro, Pa.; and Nancy Monteleone, Farrell; two brothers, Joseph D. Monteleone, Grove City; and Carmelo A. Monteleone, Daytona Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Monteleone was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Vincent "Vincy" M. Monteleone; and one brother, Frank Monteleone.

Rosella 'Babe' Rotunno

Masury homemaker loved family, cards and crochet

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday for Rosella "Babe" Rotunno, 882 N. Stateline Road, Masury. She died at 9:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in Brookfield following an extended illness. She was 85.

Mrs. Rotunno was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Brookfield to James Morgan and Sara Sheridan Morgan.

She was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon.

She loved to play cards and crochet.

A homemaker, her main love was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.

Her husband, Michael M. "Pep" Rotunno, whom she married on April 16, 1935, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Ann) Paul, San Diego, Calif.; and Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Shields, Masury; two sons, Ronald J. and his wife Judith Rotunno; and L. Charles and his wife Carol Rotunno, all Masury; nine grandchildren, Connie Sciarro, Michael Rotunno, L. Charles Rotunno Jr., James Rotunno, Cindy Scharba, David Paul, Kristina Paul, Tara Bremick and Alexandra Shields; and nine great-grandchildren, Jason Sciarro, Michael Sciarro, Ciara Rotunno, Sheridan Rotunno, Shannon Rotunno, Krista Rotunno, Maggie Rotunno, Jessica Scharba and Amanda Scharba.
    Mrs. Rotunno was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Bernadette Morgan, Mabel Mack and Kathleen Boyd; and six brothers, John, Joseph, Raymond, James, Ralph and Leo Morgan.
