Today's obituaries Dale W. Porter Sharon schools head cook was master cake decorator Dale W. Porter of 338 Lorain St., Sharon, passed away at 6:55 p.m. Monday (12-2-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 53. Mr. Porter was born Oct. 25, 1949, in Greenville, a son of Alvin Porter and Luella Jane VanHorn Porter. Dale was employed at Sharon School District where he was head cook at the senior high school for the past year. He previously had been a baker at the school, where he was employed for 15 years. Prior to his illness, Dale never missed a day of work. He was a master cake decorator and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, as well as traveling to Canada and to Mountaineer Park in West Virginia. He was also extremely fond of his bulldog, Boluga. Surviving are: one daughter, Tennille Knauff, Transfer; one son, Jason L. Porter and his wife Amy, Brookfield; three sisters, Mrs. Clyde (Josephine) Richards, Greenville; Jane Taylor, Conneaut Lake; and Barbara Porter, with whom he made his home; one brother, Alvin Porter, Greenville; and four grandchildren, Emily Porter, Joshua Burkhart, Tristen Knauff and Maddy Knauff. Dale was preceded in death by his parents.
PORTER Seymour Swogger Pinchot Infant Seymour Swogger Pinchot was stillborn at 11:54 a.m. Sunday (12-1-02) in the Women's Center of Sharon Regional Health System. She was a daughter of Judith A. Swogger and Joseph J. Pinchot of 8122 Warren-Sharon Road, Masury. Her birth was eagerly anticipated and she brought great joy to her family during the pregnancy. Surviving are: her parents and big sisters, Natalie and Siri, at home; her maternal grandparents, Judith A. and Oscar Swogger Jr., Masury; paternal grandparents, John W. and Dolores M. Pinchot, North Fayette, Pa.; maternal great-grandmother, Elsie P. Stimpak, West Salem Township; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
PINCHOT Elizabeth 'Betty' E. Strecansky Delphi retiree was member of St. Ann's Church A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday for Elizabeth "Betty" E. Strecansky, Hermitage, formerly of 2021 Paul St., Farrell. She passed away at 11:20 a.m. Monday (12-2-02) in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She was 79. Mrs. Strecansky was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Sharon, a daughter of Edward Gallagher and Celeste Thompkins Gallagher. A 1942 graduate of Brookfield High School, she retired in 1980 after 30 years of employment at what is now Delphi Packard Electric Systems in Warren, Ohio, where she was a quality control clerk. Prior to her marriage, she worked for seven years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Farrell and the church Altar Rosary Society. She also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Euchre Card Club; and the International Union of Electrical Workers. She played bocce with American Legion Post 432 in Wheatland and bowled at Sunset Lanes in Farrell with the Wednesday Morning Bowlerettes. Her husband, Michael Patrick Strecansky, whom she married on Aug. 10, 1949, died on June 4, 2001. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Francis (Terrie M.) Lunn, Butler; one sister, Mary Ryhal, Transfer; one brother, Edward V. Gallagher and his wife Marge, Green Valley, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Charles and Celeste Lunn; one great-granddaughter Mauren Hilton; and one great-grandson, Michael Hilton. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael P. Strecansky; two brothers, Charles and James Gallagher; and three sisters, Catherine Jewell, Esther Rivetti and Agnes Baxter.
STRECANSKY Perle Heiman Temple Beth Israel member enjoyed bridge, needlecraft Perle Heiman, 1753 McDowell St., Sharon, passed away at 8 p.m. Monday (12-2-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 83. Mrs. Heiman was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Farrell to William Feinberg and Cecilia Prizant Feinberg. An alumna of Farrell High School Class of 1936, she attended Ohio State University in Columbus and was a graduate in 1939 of Northwest Institute of Medical Technology. Mrs. Heiman also belonged to the League of Women Voters and Sharon Country Club. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golfing, knitting, quilting and needlepoint. As a member of Temple Beth Israel in Sharon, Mrs. Heiman belonged to the Sisterhood and Hadassah. She was also a former member of B'Nai Zion Synagogue of Farrell and served as a past president of the Shenango Valley Council of Jewish Women. Her husband, Arnold Heiman, whom she married on June 25, 1939, passed away on Aug. 14 of this year. Surviving are: two sons, Attorney Ronald Heiman and his wife Deborah Heiman, Hermitage; and Rick Heiman and his wife Lynne Heiman, Haiku, Hawaii; and two grandsons, Eric and Daniel Heiman. Besides her husband, Mrs. Heiman was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Goldie Feinberg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Temple Beth Israel, 840 Highland Road; or American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Ave., both Sharon 16146.
HEIMAN William 'Bill' J. Richards Farrell man worked for car dealer, was Protestant William "Bill" J. Richards, 1042 Emerson Ave., Farrell, died of natural causes at 4 a.m. Tuesday (12-3-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, following an extended illness. He was 72. Mr. Richards was born July 11, 1930, in Sharon to Jesse E. Richards and Sarah Schreckenghost Richards. He was employed for 27 years as a mechanic for the former Snyder and Freeman car dealership and auto body shop in Sharpsville. He also worked for Frank "Goose" Williams. Mr. Richards was a Protestant by faith and enjoyed watching NASCAR and World Wrestling Federation wrestling. He also enjoyed doing puzzles. Surviving are: four sisters, Sarah Passel, Farrell; Mrs. James (Virginia) Diefenderfer Sr., Fredonia; Doris Brenizer, Greenville; and Mrs. Howard (Mildred) Hayes, Greenville; five brothers, Clyde Richards and his wife Josephine, Greenville; Harry Richards and his wife Jeanette, Talkeetna, Alaska; Edward Richards and his wife Kathy, North Bend, Oregon; Robert Richards and his wife Gloria, Greenville; and James Richards and his wife Theresa, Sharon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews; and great-nieces and -nephews. Mr. Richards was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Esther Richards; an infant brother, Jesse Richards; three nephews, Edward and Clyde Richards; and John Brenizer; and one niece, Melissa Richards. RICHARDS John Edwin 'Ed' West John Edwin "Ed" West, 768 N. Broad St. Extension, Pine Township, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday (12-3-02) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township. He was 87. Obituary information was incomplete.

CAMPBELL Cecil C. Thompson Well known sports official was retired executive Cecil C. Thompson of 2002 King Drive, Hermitage, died Tuesday morning (12-3-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 82. Mr. Thompson was born Aug. 26, 1920, in Ashtabula, Ohio, a son of Cecil Clair Thompson and Frances Elizabeth White Thompson. He was a 1939 graduate of Sharon High School. As an active member of Central Christian Church in Hermitage, Mr. Thompson was a deacon and elder; past president of the Covenant Class, as well as of the Christian Men's Fellowship. He belonged to Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Lodge 668, now Hermitage Lodge 810; and Scottish Rite's New Castle Consistory and its Legion of Honor. He was also a member of AARP Shenango Valley Chapter 3616, a retired person's organization. An athletic official, he belonged to Northwest Local Board AABO Basketball Officials, for which he served as a past president, secretary and treasurer; and the Mercer/Crawford Counties Umpires Association, having served as a past secretary and treasurer. Mr. Thompson was a World War II U.S. Marine and served as a corporal, participating in the invasion of Saipan, Taiwan, the Okinawa Islands and with the U.S. occupation forces in Japan. He was a retired treasurer and financial vice-president of Protected Home Mutual Life Insurance in Sharon with 25 years of service, retiring on Dec. 31, 1986. Mr. Thompson was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and loved camping, gardening and family activities. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Louise Louden, whom he married on April 6, 1943. Also surviving are: two daughters, Marilyn Bauer and her husband Roger, Elyria, Ohio; and Leann White and her husband Gerald, Jefferson, Ohio; and two granddaughters, Christina Lynne and Erika Jeanne White. THOMPSON Philip Snyder Retired foreman worked at Sharon Tube for 32 years A funeral service will be held Friday for Philip Snyder, 318 Sherman Ave., Sharon. He passed away at 3:24 p.m. Monday (12-2-02) in the skilled care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 71. Born June 10, 1931, in Sharpsville, Mr. Snyder was a son of Arthur Snyder and Sophie Koppel Snyder. He graduated from Brookfield High School in 1949 and retired in 1992 from Sharon Tube Co. as a maintenance foreman, having worked at the company for 32 years. A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Snyder served during the Korean conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 299, Sharon; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling. His wife, the former Shirley J. Ramsey, whom he married on May 30, 1952, passed away on Aug. 14, 2001. Mr. Snyder is survived by: a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Norma) Hogan, Charlton, Mass.; a son, Philip E. Snyder, Eagor, Ariz.; a sister, Celia Lea Brown, Kent, Ohio; and a brother, David Snyder and his wife Rhea, Slidell, La. He also leaves three grandchildren, Jacob Hogan, Dylan Snyder and Quinn Snyder. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
SNYDER Philomena Myers Burghill homemaker was born in Sharon Philomena Myers, 4087 Custer-Orangeville Road, Burghill, died at 11:35 a.m. Sunday(12-1-02) in Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home, Fowler. She was 93. Mrs. Myers was born Aug. 21, 1909, in Sharon to Frank Simeon and Mary Martin Simeon. She was a homemaker. Her husband, George R. Myers Sr., whom she married on June 4, 1928, died on April 30, 1996. Surviving are: two daughters, Minnie Belle Porterfield, Hermitage; and Mary Marie Michael, Hartford; three sons, Frank Myers, Hartford; John Myers, Sharon; and George Myers Jr., Masury; two sisters, Theresa Vourlioton, Hubbard; and Mary Fortine, Masury; 25 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
MYERS Martha Ann Hardy Medical technologist was 30-year vocational teacher RIDLEY PARK Pa. -- A Divine Liturgy will be held Thursday for Martha Ann Hardy of 1550 Glen Ave., Folcroft, Pa., formerly of Farrell. She died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday (12-1-02) in Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park. She was 68. Miss Hardy was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Farrell to Stephen Hardy and Mary Bogdan Hardy. She was a 1952 graduate of Farrell High School and attended Slippery Rock College. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in medical technology. Miss Hardy completed graduate work in education at Temple University, Philadelphia. A medical technologist at Chester and Taylor hospitals, she taught medical office assistants at Delaware County Vocational schools in Folcroft and Marple for 30 years. Miss Hardy was a member of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church in Sharon and Holy Ghost Orthodox Church in Phoenixville, Pa., where she was very active in the Altar Society. She was a member of Pennsylvania State and National Education associations and received a Distinguished Recognition Award from PSEA for her work on the Executive Board from 1984 to 1993. Miss Hardy enjoyed her travels to many countries, as well as her craftwork and gardening. Surviving are: one sister, Mary Barbara Hardy, Farrell; four uncles, George Bogdan, Sharon; Dr. Andrew Bogdan, Houston, Texas; Paul Bogdan, Sharon; and Alex Bogdan, Hermitage. She was preceded in death by her parents.
