Pearl Marie Anthony Fredonia woman active in community, Avon rep Pearl Marie Anthony, 65, of 58 Grant St., Fredonia, died at 2:05 a.m. Saturday (1-18-03) at her residence following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. She was born in Greenville on July 19, 1937, a daughter of the late Arthur William and Bessie Belle (Krischbaum) Redfoot. On July 1, 1961, she married Clifford Joseph Anthony who preceded her in death on March 1, 2000. She retired in July 2002 from the Atomic Box in Aurora, Ohio. She had been a sales representative for Avon for more than 20 years. She was the Fredonia representative for the American Cancer Society and had formerly been active with the Salvation Army in Greenville. She was a member of the Fredonia Presbyterian Church. She is survived by three sons, Michael Joseph Anthony of Fredonia, Ronald Edward Anthony and his wife Susan of Fredonia and Todd Alan Anthony and his wife April of Fredonia; one sister, Betty Field of Auburndale, Fla.; four brothers, William Redfoot of Cochranton, Robert Redfoot of Molden, Mo., Clair "Scott" Redfoot of Greenville and Howard Redfoot of Manheim, Pa.; two stepsisters, Betty Barber of Greenville and Isophene Buterbaugh of Andover, Ohio; four grandchildren, William Anthony, Christopher Anthony, Alisha Anthony and Wendell Anthony, all of Fredonia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Richard Redfoot.
ANTHONY Elizabeth S. Carpenter Former bank secretary was active in church Elizabeth S. Carpenter, 47 Chambers Ave., Greenville, died early Saturday (1-18-03) at home following an extended illness. She was 71. Mrs. Carpenter was born Feb. 27, 1931 in Pittsburgh to William Norman and Sarah Dora (Crouse) Stein. She was a secretary at First National Bank in Greenville for 22 years. Prior to that she worked at Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad in Greenville for three years. As a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville, she served on several committees, including church council. A graduate of Wilkinsburg High School and Thiel College, she belonged to various bridge clubs in Greenville. Surviving are her husband, Donald S. Carpenter, whom she married on Aug. 19, 1950; a son, Scott Donald Carpenter and his wife, Pam, of Rock Hill, S.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Susan Marie) Achenbach of Greenville; and six grandchildren, Heather and Pam Achenbach; Robbie Nickolson; and Andrew, Richard and Christofer Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William L. Stein. CARPENTER Phyllis L. Bastide Former D'Onofrio's employee loved bowling, Bingo Phyllis L. Bastide, of Meadowbrook Manor, Youngstown, formerly of Connelly Manor, Sharon, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday (1-18-03) at Meadowbrook Manor. She was 75. Mrs. Bastide was born June 24, 1928, to Leo Quinn and Phyllis Marie Spicahalter Quinn. A member of Notre Dame Church in Hermitage, Mrs. Bastide graduated from Farrell High School and worked for D'Onofrio's grocery store, Hermitage, for 20 years as a produce clerk until retiring. She was an avid bowler and loved to play Bingo. Surviving are three daughters, Phyllis and her husband Dennis Parkinson of Masury, Jennie and her husband Eric Brockway of Hermitage and Darlene and her husband Ken Hildebran of Hadley; two sisters, Doris Kloss of Hermitage and Pauline Weyer of Cleveland; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Donna Bastide and Janet Esmond; one son, Leo Bastide; two sisters, Dolly Barnes and Virginia Cantelope and one brother, "Bud" Quinn.
BASTIDE Carl A. Galloni Sharpsville native was veteran of Korea, Vietnam Carl A. Galloni, 71, of Clinton, Mass., formerly of Winchendon, Mass., died Friday (1-17-03) in Clinton Hospital following an illness. He was born in Sharpsville, a son of John and Antoinette (Rosita) Galloni and lived in Winchendon before moving to Clinton several years ago. He worked as an executive chef for U.S. Army for 23 years, retiring in 1974. He graduated from Sharpsville High School and Grossmont College, Grossmont, Calif. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Lodge of Moose. He leaves two sons, John A. Galloni of South Point, Ohio, and Robert C. Galloni of Lunenburg, Mass.; four daughters, Carole F. Hensley of Rawl, W.V., Carla A. Baird of Clinton, Louise A. Underwood of Kingfield, Maine, and Anna M. Kinosian of Winchendon; a brother, Richard J. Galloni of Jesup, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Peggy A. Knight, and a brother, Joseph Galloni.
GALLONI Joseph Anthony Combine Hermitage barber was an accomplished musician Joseph Anthony Combine, of 1445 Wakefield Drive, Hermitage, passed away at 5:13 a.m. Saturday (1-18-03) in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 73. Mr. Combine was born Nov. 25, 1929 in Sharpsville to Dominic Combine and Mary Falvo. Mr. Combine graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1947. Following his discharge from the service, Joe began his career as a barber. He owned and operated a barber shop in Hermitage for more than 25 years and later on Budd Street in Sharon. He cut hair until Wednesday of last week. Joe was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hermitage, where he was an usher. An accomplished musician, he played the saxophone for more than 50 years. He played with many bands throughout his career including Bill Basilone, Benny Jones, Mike Stone and Don and Lynn Sebastian. He also served with the U.S. Coast Guard. Joe was well known for his garden that he planted each year. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing. He leaves his wife, the former Margaret "Peggy" Goga, whom he married July 26, 1952. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Besides his wife he leaves one sister, Mrs. Joanne Bishop and her husband Richard "Dick" Bishop of Las Vegas, Nev., and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
COMBINE Ethel G. White Homemaker was part of '28 Sharon basketball team Ethel G. White, of 110 Fredonia Road, Greenville, died Friday (1-17-03) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 92. Mrs. White was born Nov. 6, 1910, in Sharon, to George and Estelle Stambaugh. A 1932 graduate of Grove City College, Mrs. White had taught kindergarten. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Sharon. Mrs. White was also a member of the 1928 Sharon girls' basketball team during the Kansas City National Championship Playoff. She married James S. White in June 1936. He passed away in January 1979. Surviving are three daughters, Linda L. Hunter of Hermitage, Carol A. Farrell of Richardson, Texas, and Jackie McClimans of Jamestown; a sister, Estelle Horton, of Ft. Ritchie, Fla.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlton and Everett Stambaugh, and two sisters, Edna Nagel and Helen Stambaugh. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
