Gracie L. Cornwell Former Masury resident was of Baptist faith MINERAL RIDGE, Ohio -- A funeral service will be held Monday for Gracie L. Cornwell, Mineral Ridge, formerly of Stewart Road, Masury. She passed away at 4:40 a.m. Thursday (2-13-03) in Glen View Manor in Mineral Ridge. She was 98. Mrs. Cornwell was born July 18, 1904, in Lawton, W.Va. to Matthew and Miara Scott. She lived in Masury since 1960 and was of the Baptist faith. Her husband. Robert Cornwell, is deceased. Surviving is her niece and caregiver, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Davis of Columbus, Ohio. She also leaves to cherish her memory: her nephews, Alvin Cornwell Jr., whom she reared for most of his life; and Walter Martin; and Christopher and Anthony Cornwell, all of Youngstown, all of whom she considered her children; and a host of other nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents.
CORNWELL Catherine 'Kate' L. Sikos Masury woman enjoyed gardening, reading Catherine "Kate" L. Sikos, Masury, formerly of Sharon, passed away at 5:05 p.m. Friday (2-14-03) in Orange Village Care Center, Masury. She was 90. Mrs. Sikos was born July 1, 1912, in Sharon, a daughter of George and Sophia Kalitch. She attended schools in Sharon and retired from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant as a cafeteria worker, where she had worked for several years. Kate was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage. She enjoyed flower gardening and reading. She was also an avid card player. Her husband, Peter Sikos, is deceased. Surviving are: one daughter-in-law, Lois Susan Merush, Masury; one sister, Helen Sojath, Astoria, N.Y.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Sikos was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Merush; and two sisters, Lillian and Ophelia. Memorial contributions may be made to Orange Village Care Center, 8055 Addison Road SE, Masury, Ohio 44438.
SIKOS Catherine E. Weber Past president of auxiliary was Sharon Steel retiree A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Catherine E. Weber, a resident of John XXIII Home, formerly of 561 Charlotte Drive, both Hermitage. She died at 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in John XXIII Home. She was 83. Mrs. Weber was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Sharon, to William H. and Verna Clepper Cooper. A 1937 graduate of Sharon High School, she retired with 20 years of service from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where she worked in the Metallurgy Department. She was a very active member and a past president of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 299 in Sharon and was also a member and past president of the Beaver, Lawrence, Mercer Tri-County Council American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a partner and chapeau passé of Mercer County Salon #318 of the 8 et 40 Unit. She also belonged to First United Methodist Church, Sharon; and Penn Lakes Council of Girl Scouts of America. She was also a faithful volunteer at the Mercer County Chapter of the American Red Cross, where she received several citations for being a "Gift of Life" blood donor. Her husband, Anthony N. Weber, whom she married on Oct. 21, 1939, died on March 17, 1945, having been killed in action during World War II. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Margaret A.) Daniels, West Middlesex; and Carol S. McClure, Dublin, Ohio; one son, Richard L. Weber and his wife Angela, Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Leroy Cooper; and a granddaughter, Tracey Bell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mercer County Chapter of American Red Cross, 247 S. Oakland Ave., Sharon 16146.
WEBER Lydia C. Whitecotton Retired payroll office manager was Baptist Lydia C. Whitecotton, Sharon, formerly of 105 W. Liberty St., Hubbard, passed away Friday afternoon (2-14-03) in Clepper Manor, Sharon. She was 89. Mrs. Whitecotton was born May 4, 1913, in Bristol, W.Va., a daughter of Clark and Bessie Holt Morgan. She came to Sharon in 1949, moved to Hubbard in 1979 and back to Sharon in 2001. She was a 1931 graduate of Bristol High School and attended Fairmont (W.Va.) State University. Mrs. Whitecotton was the payroll office manager for 25 years at G.C. Murphy Co. for the Sharon and Farrell stores, retiring in 1978. She was past president of Hubbard Senior Citizens and a past local director of AARP, a retired person's organization. She was of the Baptist faith. Her husband, Henry Whitecotton, whom she married Dec. 4, 1932, passed away July 5, 1986. She leaves: two brothers, Werner Morgan, Prescott, Ariz.; and Dewey Morgan, Hubbard; eight grandchildren, Thomas R. Davis, Girard, Ohio; Catherine E. Davis, Mercer; Gloria Jean Davis, Mercer; Ruth Ann Wolf, Hubbard; William H. Davis, Pembroke Pine, Fla.; Donna Rae Coonce, Hubbard; Rhonda J. Sorensen, Jamestown, S.D.; and William G. Whitecotton, Sharon; and eight great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, a daughter, Bessie F. Davis; a son, William H. Whitecotton; two brothers, Oy Morgan and Audie Morgan; and two sisters, Bertha Morgan and Ionia Hamilton, preceded her in death. The family requests memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association, 1815 W. Market St., Suite 108, Akron, Ohio 44313.
WHITECOTTON Leo G. Smith Sr. Leo G. Smith Sr., 2805 Cherry Way, Sharpsville, died at 12:52 p.m. Saturday (2-15-03) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 76. Obituary information was incomplete.
