Helen Marie Hutcheson, a resident since 1960 of 428 Memorial Ave., Grove City, died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, after an extended illness. She was 80.

Mrs. Hutcheson was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Centertown, Wolfcreek Township, to Harry Leroy Snyder and Mary Ann Sopher Snyder.

She retired from Grove City Area Schools, where she worked in the cafeteria for 28 years. She formerly worked at Grace United Methodist Church and at Grove Manor as a caterer, both in Grove City.

Mrs. Hutcheson was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and its XL Sunday school class, and attended Barkeyville Church of God.

She also belonged to AARP, a retired person's organization; and Mercer Fun Club.

Her husband, John R. Hutcheson, whom she married on Aug. 19, 1940, died Jan. 2, 1972.

Surviving are: two sons, Richard J. Hutcheson, Grove City; and Edwin L. Hutcheson, Cedar Hill, Texas; her caregiver, Edwin L. Hutcheson, Grove City; one sister, Ruth Shaw, Winter Park, Fla.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Hutcheson was preceded in death by her parents; a companion, James T. Graham; and an infant sister, Eleanor Mae Snyder.

Leo G. Smith Sr.

S. Py man was Lordstown retiree, hunter, angler

A funeral service will be held Tuesday for Leo G. Smith Sr., 2805 Cherry Way, South Pymatuning Township. He died at 12:52 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in the Cardiac Care Unit of UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after an extended illness. He was 76.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Mann Township, Bedford County, Pa., to Aquilla Smith and Eveline B. Barnes Smith.

He attended Artemas (Pa.) area schools and worked for 22 years as a chipper for Shenango Penn Molds of Sharpsville. He later went to work for General American Transportation Corp.'s former Masury plant as a welder for nine years. He retired in 1992 from General Motors Lordstown (Ohio) car assembly plant as a welder after 21 years.

Mr. Smith formerly attended First United Methodist Church in Greenville.

He served in World War II in the 11th Army Air Force and was a past member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 6631 in Mercer.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to flea markets. A self-engineer, he skillfully designed and crafted various items.

Surviving are: three daughters, Evelina M. and her husband, Robert Laver; Janet L. Smith; and Caroline A. and her husband, Terry Wilson; and a son, Leo G. Smith and his wife Kathy, all Greenville; a brother, Alva F. Smith, Buffalo, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and a brother, James S. Smith.

Margaret E. Stepanchak, 7 Capitol Court, Farrell, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday (2-16-03) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 81.
