DOUGLASS Joe Dryer Joe Dryer, Woodland Place Inc., Coolspring Township, formerly of Sharon, died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday (1-8-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 90. Obituary information was incomplete.
DRYER Robert Fine Greater Mount Zion member of Sharon worked in Farrell Robert Fine, 825 Baldwin Ave., Sharon, died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday (1-9-02) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 42. Mr. Fine was born Feb. 20, 1959, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Robert Fine and Lola A. Adams Fine. He attended New York University and was a laborer at Premier Hydraulics Inc. in Farrell and formerly worked for West Central Job Partnership Training. Mr. Fine also was a volunteer at Farrell Diner. He was a member of Greater Mount Zion Church of God in Christ in Farrell. Surviving are: two sons, Shawn Fine and Mighty Fine, both Sharon; a daughter, Jevelle Fine; his parents; and a brother, Paul Fine, all Brooklyn; six sisters, Lois Barlow, Sharon; and Penny Fine, Theresa Tuckett, Helen Todman, Adrienne Fine and Dawn Grant, all Brooklyn; a grandchild, Tiarra Cacho, also Brooklyn; a close family friend, Ma Taylor, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends. Mr. Fine was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Hattie Fine.
FINE Rose A. Krantz Retired drug store assistant manager had lived in Sharon A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday for Rose A. Krantz, Hermitage, formerly of Sherman Avenue, Sharon. She died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday (1-9-02) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. She was 86. Mrs. Krantz was born Feb. 22, 1915, in Maspeth, Long Island, N.Y., to Frank and Louisa Burk Bauer. She retired in 1980 from the former Sun Drug Store in Hermitage, where she was an assistant manager. Mrs. Krantz was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Farrell. Her husband, George A. Krantz Sr., whom she married Oct. 6, 1934, died June 7, 1990. Surviving are: a daughter and son-in-law, Roseanne and William Schwartz, Austintown, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, George A. Krantz Jr. and Mary Lou Krantz, Hermitage; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Krantz was preceded in death by her parents; and 14 brothers and sisters.
KRANTZ Robert J. Love Gunsmith, machinist owned shops in Sandy Lake Twp. Robert J. Love, 6111 Sandy Lake-Polk Road, Sandy Lake Township, died at 1:11 p.m. Wednesday (1-9-02) in his residence as a result of a fire at his business behind his home. He was 72. Mr. Love was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Maple Grove, Mineral Township, Venango County, to Robert A. and Hazel D. Campbell Love. He attended the former Sandy Lake High School and retired in 1985 after many years of service from ABEX Corp. in Meadville. A well-known machinist and gunsmith in the area, Mr. Love was the owner and operator for several years to the present of Love's Gun Shop and Love's Machine and Tool Co., both Sandy Lake Township. In his early years, he also farmed. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Love served in the Army Air Corps and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He loved working with his hands and helping others. He married Joan M. McClain on March 12, 1951. She survives at home. Also surviving are: two sons, Robert W. Love, Polk; and David L. Love, Sandy Lake; one sister, Marylin J. Fulmer, Polk; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Love was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Randy S. Love; and one sister, Meriam Love.
LOVE William V. Moss WM schools retiree served with Marines in Vietnam William V. Moss, 29 Campman Lane, West Middlesex, died at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after an extended illness. He was 55. Mr. Moss was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Charleston, W.Va., to Denver and Mary Beaver Moss. He retired in May 1994 after 17½ years from West Middlesex School District, where he worked in the maintenance department. Mr. Moss belonged to United Methodist Church of West Middlesex. At one time, he coached Little League baseball in West Middlesex. A U.S. Marines veteran, Mr. Moss served as a sergeant during the Vietnam conflict and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex; and Veterans of Vietnam, Meadville. Surviving are: his wife, the former Susan E. Wilson, whom he married Jan. 25, 1968, at home in West Middlesex; his father, Charleston; two sons, William E. Moss, West Middlesex; and Paul R. Moss, Masury; Gretchen Wilson, West Middlesex, whom he lovingly called his "favorite mother-in-law"; four sisters, Ellen, wife of Robert Boggess, Winfield, W.Va.; Dianna Simmons, Richmond, Va.; and Joetta Moss; and Johanna, wife of Daniel Taylor, both Charleston; five brothers, Richard and Roger Moss, both Georgia; and Holley, Leo and Merlin Moss, all Charleston; and three grandchildren. Mr. Moss was preceded in death by his mother; a sister, Varley Moss; two brothers, Denver and Bud Moss; and his grandparents. MOSS Anthony Robert Messina Infant Anthony Robert Messina, Sharon, passed away 9:57 a.m. Tuesday (1-8-02), two days after a premature birth in Magee-Womens Hospital in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. Anthony was born Jan. 5, 2002, a son of Robert and Kelly Messina. He leaves: his parents; and a sister, Emily Rebecca Messina, all at home in Sharon; his paternal grandparents, Sam and Marlene A. Messina, also Sharon; and Richard and Rebecca Palladini, Freedom, Beaver County. Several aunts, uncles and 21 cousins also survive him. MESSINA Alice R. Nelson Center Presbyterian member retired as teacher in Mercer Alice R. Nelson, 1996 Butler Pike, Springfield Township, Village of London, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in Orchard Manor, Pine Township, after an extended illness. She was 88. She had lived for three years in the nursing home. Miss Nelson was born Nov. 5, 1913, in London to John F. and Sarah P. Rickardson Nelson. She graduated from what is now Slippery Rock University. His teaching career began at the former White Oak School, Springfield Township, and ended with Mercer Area School District over a total of 45 years. Miss Nelson was a lifetime member of Center Presbyterian Church, Pine Township, where she was a Sunday school teacher, deacon, treasurer of the building fund, Meals-on-Wheels driver and church quilter. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Grace E. Weber, Grove City; and Frances Wertman, Wildwood, N.J. Surviving are: a cousin and nieces and nephews. NELSON Nora E. Rearick Former Ohioan was retired teacher, homemaker Nora E. Rearick, 1586 Sandy Lane, Hermitage, formerly of Bellevue, Ohio, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 9, 2002, in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. She was 98. Mrs. Rearick was born Sept. 25, 1903, in Bellevue to John and Clara Jane Zimmerman Hansen. A retired teacher, she was the oldest living graduate of the former Thompson High School at Fireside, Ohio. Mrs. Rearick was a homemaker and a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Toledo. She also attended Sts. Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sharon and was a former member of Zion United Church of Christ, Fireside, in Bellevue. Her husband, Walter E. Rearick, whom she married Aug. 24, 1934, in Bellevue, died in 1977. Surviving are: three sons, L. Wesley Rearick and his wife Lois, Sterling Heights, Mich.; Bryan Rearick, Lambertville, Mich.; and Norman Rearick and his wife Carolyn, Westerville, Ohio; a daughter, Eleanor Besser, Hermitage; a brother, Arthur Hansen, Bellevue; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and four brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
REARICK Kenneth Joseph Spencer Self-employed upholsterer coached in Little League Kenneth Joseph Spencer of Fornelli Manor, 800 Linden St., formerly of North State Line Road, both Sharon, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday (1-9-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. He was 87. Mr. Spencer was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Chicago, a son of James and Teresa Leainghen Spencer. He was a self-employed upholsterer for 55 years. In his earlier years, Mr. Spencer had been active as a coach and manager in Little League baseball in Sharon. He was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart in Sharon. His wife, the former Helen E. Rindy, whom he married May 28, 1940, survives at home. Also surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Anthony (Jeanne A.) Costanzo, Sharon; one son, Fredrick K. Spencer and his wife Patricia, New Castle; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. SPENCER Ruth S. Teets Joy Manufacturing employee was cook at Humes Hotel Ruth S. Teets, Woodland Place, 745 Greenville Road, Coolspring Township, died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in the nursing home after an extended illness. She was 84. Mrs. Teets was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Friendsville, Md., to John and Sarah Hardin Van Sickle. She had worked for Joy Manufacturing, Franklin. Mrs. Teets previously was a cook for the former Humes Hotel, Mercer. She was a Protestant. Mrs. Teets was a 4-H leader in the Franklin area. Her husband, Ivan L. Teets Sr., whom she married March 28, 1936, died Jan. 14, 1995. Surviving are: two daughters, Pat Higbee and Mrs. George J. (Peggy) Swartz, both Mercer; two sons, Landon R. Teets, Mercer; and Ivan L. Teets Jr., Sharon; four sisters, Mrs. Richard (Dolores) Smith, Hadley; Mrs. William (Betty) Rowe, Jamestown; Mrs. John (Grace) Dickman, Paramus, N.J.; and Mrs. Harry (Marge) Savajis, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Eleanor Crowley and Freda Dunn; and two brothers, Playford and Jack Van Sickle. TEETS Rose T. Verholek Former longtime Farrell homemaker was seamstress A funeral Mass will be held Friday for Rose T. Verholek of 147 Hopper Road, Delaware Township, formerly of Roemer Boulevard in Farrell, where she resided for 46 years. She passed away at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, in Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage, after a brief illness. She was 86. Born April 7, 1915, in Farrell, Mrs. Verholek was a daughter of the late Nick Rodocoy Sr. and Katherine Korenic Rodocoy. Mrs. Verholek received her education in a one-room schoolhouse in Transfer. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon. Mrs. Verholek enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished seamstress. On June 1, 1940, she married Michael Verholek. He preceded her in death June 2, 1998. Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Louis (Nancy J.) Davis, Transfer; one son, M. Gary Verholek and his wife Donna, Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Emma Yazvac, Bentley House, Hermitage; five grandchildren, Mrs. Dan (Lisa) Zigo, Hermitage; Mrs. Carlos (Michelle) Salgado, Cranberry Township, Butler County; Eric Davis and his wife Shannon, Hermitage; Aaron Verholek, Banner Elk, N.C.; and Mrs. Kelly (Heather) McCormick, Knoxville; and three great-granddaughters, Rosa, Sofia and India. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Verholek was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward and Mark Rodocoy; and Nick Rodocoy Jr., all Hermitage.
