Shirley R. Artz Ex-WE employees secretary belonged to St. Paul's UCC Shirley R. Artz of Nugent's Convalescent Home, 500 Clarksville Road, Hermitage, died Monday at the home. She was 75. Miss Artz was born June 16, 1926, in Sharon to Charles and Albertina Kaiser Artz. A 1944 graduate of Sharon High School, Miss Artz was a secretary for the Sharon Westinghouse Employees Association for 17 years. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Hermitage. Surviving is a sister, Betty Genger, St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her parents.
ARTZ Mary Koss Ex-Masury homemaker was St. Anthony's member Mary Koss of Clepper Manor Nursing Home, Sharon, formerly of 7811 Service St., S.E., Masury, died at 2:51 a.m. Monday (5-13-02) in the nursing home following an extended illness. She was 93. Mrs. Koss was born March 2, 1909, in Farrell to Mike and Anna Augustic Sever. She attended Farrell area schools and was a homemaker. Mrs. Koss belonged to St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Sharon; and was also a member of CFU Lodge 705; St. Theresa's Society of Church; and St. Anthony's Bakerettes. Her husband, Michael Koss, whom she married Nov. 14, 1925, died Oct. 1960. Surviving are: a sister, Dorothy Gasparich, Farrell, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jim Sever and Joe Sever; and three sisters, Katherine Fecic, Barbara Chrnko, and Anna Raketich.
KOSS Alexander Wilford Mijavec Sr. Farmer, feed store co-owner worked at National Castings Alexander Wilford Mijavec Sr., New Bedford-Pulaski area, 74, passed away Sunday afternoon (5-12-02) in his residence. Mr. Mijavec was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Pulaski, a son of John and Anna Kopanick Mijavec, and lived in the New Bedford-Pulaski area his whole life. Mr. Mijavec was a full-time farmer all his life and was co-owner of Mijavec Feed and Supply, Pulaski. He was also employed for 20 years as a mechanic repairman leader for the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp., Sharon. He was a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, New Bedford, and its Men's Club and also was a lifetime usher. He was assistant Scout leader for Troop 723 for four years. He enjoyed hunting, attending farm sales and polkas. He would also help with his son's concession trailer. Mr. Mijavec cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. His wife, the former Agnes M. Ferry, whom he married Sept. 26, 1952, passed away April 15, 1992. Mr. Mijavec is survived by his children and their families: Alexander J. and his wife, Nancy, New Bedford; and their daughter and grandson, Rochelle and Max; Mark J. and his wife, Denise, Howland, Ohio, and their daughter, Alexandra; Therese M. Ivanisin and her husband, Karl, Maryland, and their son, Philip; and two brothers, John, Pulaski; and George, Warren, Pa. His wife and a daughter, Rita Michelle Mijavec, are deceased. Before Dad passed from this life, he wanted us to make sure that everyone who touched his life knew he was grateful for all the love and concern expressed through prayers, well wishes, cards and companionship during his illness.
Hannah C. Weller GC resident was retired UCH nurse who worked for doctor Hannah C. Weller, 308 N. Center St., Grove City, died at 4 a.m. Friday (5-10-02) in her residence, where she had lived since 1958. She was 84. Mrs. Weller was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Grove City to James Lehman and Kathryn McGill Carpenter. Mrs. Weller was a graduate of Grove City High School, class of 1937. She attended Bashline Rossman School of Nursing at the former Bashline Hospital in Grove City. She retired in 1982 from United Community Hospital, Pine Township, where she was employed as a surgical nurse in the operating room for 25 years. Following retirement, she worked as an office nurse for Dr. Bernard Hoyt for 15 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, and the X.L. Class and the Women's Missionary Circle of the church. She also was a member of Business and Professional Women; AARP, the retired persons organization; Daughters of the American Revolution; and the Judith Rebekah Lodge 264, Grove City. Her husband, Joseph Thompson Weller, whom she married April 10, 1947, died in 1957. Surviving are: two daughters, Barbara Jo Weller and Nancy Burton, both Fort Smith, Ark.; one brother, Gerald Carpenter, El Paso, Texas; and two grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Raymond L. Weller in 1964; her stepmother, Bessie Brown; and five brothers, Joseph, Raymond, Robert, Donald and Dale Carpenter.
WELLER Juanita Phillips Pittsburgh resident had family members in area PITTSBURGH -- A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Juanita Phillips, 110 McIntyre Road, Pittsburgh. She died at 4:42 a.m. Saturday (5-11-02) in Ross Kane Regional Health Care Facility. She was 56. Ms. Phillips was born June 22, 1946, in Goodwater, Ala., to Annie Phillips. She was a member of Pearly Gates Church of God in Christ, Brookfield. Surviving are: one daughter, Linda Phillips, Sharon; two stepbrothers, Lindsey Lowe, Sharon; and Larry Lowe, Erie; three sisters, Jeanette Leonard, Sharon; Elizabeth Alexander, Butler; and Ernestine Gunn, Pittsburgh; two stepsisters, Lorine Lowe and Loretta Lowe, both Masury; three grandchildren, Dawon Miller, Freddie Beasley and Juanita Beasley, all Sharon; two aunts, Carrie J. Morrell, Laurel, Miss.; and Unamae Flores, Ashtabula, Ohio; and one uncle, Talmadge Phillips, Farrell. She was preceded in death by her mother; her stepfather, Son Lowe Sr.; and a sister, Emma L. Short.
PHILLIPS Drusiana 'Teresa' Capozzoli Homemaker was member of Our Lady of Fatima A funeral Mass service will be held Thursday (5-16-02) for Drusiana "Teresa" Capozzoli, 500 Beechwood Ave., Farrell. She died at 3 a.m. Monday (5-13-02) in her home. She was 99. Mrs. Capozzoli was born Dec. 28, 1902, in Farrell to Anthony and Medeline Socci Buzzeo. She was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. Her husband, Frank Capozzoli, whom she married April 17, 1921, died Nov. 16, 1979. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Michael J. (Madelyn) Drobney, Farrell; three grandchildren, Michael J. Drobney Jr., Martha Gammino and Lori Rider; and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Rider. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Joan Gammino and Sylvia Capozzoli; one grandson, Frank Joseph Gammino; two sisters, Rose Socci and Sylvia Buzzeo; and two brothers, Phillip and Vincent Buzzeo.
