Sara M. Koches Wheatland native was Catholic, loved family A memorial service will be Monday for Sara M. Koches, of 1980 Custer-Orangeville Road, Masury, who died of natural causes at 1:45 a.m. Friday at O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, after an extended illness. She was 80. Born in Wheatland on Monday, June 12, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Guida Phillips Burns. Mrs. Koches was very devoted to her family and truly enjoyed spending time with them. She was of the Catholic faith. Mrs. Koches was the wife of Bernard J. Koches, whom she married Jan. 9, 1948, who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Brenda Robinson of Sharpsville, and Judith "Judy" Smith, Alexandria, Va., a son, George Koches, Sharpsville; two brothers, Joseph, husband of Colleen Burns, Wheatland, and George, husband of Gerry Burns, Mercer; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Koches is preceded in death by an infant son, Bernard Joseph Koches Jr., and a sister, Rose Morton. The family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association of the Greater Youngstown Area, 3736 Boardman-Canfield Road, Canfield, Ohio 44406-0321.
KOCHES Francis J. David Sr. Decorated veteran was Harley Davidson enthusiast A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday for Francis J. David Sr., 43 Lakeview Drive, Lackawannock Township, who passed away at 1:50 p.m. Friday (8-02-02) at home following a lengthy illness. He was 56. He was born June 4, 1946, in Sharon, the son of Joseph Jr. and Helen Olenik David. He was a 1962 alumnus of West Middlesex High School. Mr. David was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and he worked out of local union hall #66 for 35 years. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in West Middlesex. He was also a member of the Slovak Home in Farrell and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6233, West Middlesex. Mr. David was a Harley Davidson enthusiast and enjoyed working on and restoring automobiles. He was a decorated war veteran, having served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. He received the following honors: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, two Overseas Bars, Mechanic Qual Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He leaves his wife, the former Katherine "Tess" Stefanak, whom he married Nov. 25, 1971. Also surviving are his daughter, Julia Ann David of Cleveland; four sons, Christopher G. David of Charlotte, N.C., Francis J. David Jr. and his wife Dr. Kerrie David of North Canton, Ohio, Andrew David and Michael David, both at home; two grandchildren, Jessica Daryl Williams and Maximillian Elliot David; two sisters, Carol Carson of Levittown, Pa., and Mrs. John (Barbara) Urban of Sharpsville; and three brothers, Joseph David III of Sharon, Steve David and his wife Darlene of Yardley, Pa., and James David and his wife Judy of Grove City. His parents preceded him in death.
DAVID Don J. Meyer Veteran worked as Sharon Steel foreman for 30 years Don J. Meyer, of 79 Strausser Road, Lake Township, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday (8-02-02) at home after an extended illness. He was 68. Mr. Meyer was born May 17, 1934, in Transfer, to William Meyer and Ruth Johnson. A 1952 graduate of Sharpsville High School, Mr. Meyer was a private first class in the United States Army during peace time. He worked for 30 years as a foreman at Sharon Steel Corp. before retiring in 1992. Mr. Meyer, who was of Lutheran faith, belonged to the Mercer County Antique Power Association and restored Farmall tractors. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting, woodworking and the outdoors. On July 7, 1972, Mr. Meyer married Barbara A. Wiesen Deneen. Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Joan Alford of Fredonia, Amy Meyer of Reynolds, Beth Deneen of Sharpsville and Mrs. James (Ellen) Steklachich of Hermitage; two sons, Sean Deneen and his wife, Charleen, of Pittsburgh and Timothy Deneen of Jackson Center; a sister, Mrs. Mary (Wenceslao) Cruz of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Charles Meyer of Sharon and Robert Meyer and his wife, Barbara of Transfer; nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joan Deneen; an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Meyer; two sisters, Ruth Broemer and Eleanor Songer; and two brothers, William and Jack Meyer. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
MEYER Arthur Frederick Burt Meadville man served 25 years at Temple Grove Camp Arthur Frederick Burt of Meadville died Aug. 1, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare, Meadville. He was 89. He was born June 23, 1913, in Lake County, Ohio, a son of Arthur John and Myrtle Miller Burt. Mr. Burt was a graduate of Kirtland High School. He retired from Rimes Trucking in Chardon, Ohio, and from 25 years of service at Temple Grove Camp in Transfer. He served faithfully as a deacon in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints/Restoration Movement. Mr. Burt married Ruth G. Davies, who shared his life for 68 years. She survives. Additional survivors include: one son, Fred and his wife Sue of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Bonnie Holbrook and her husband Emory of Meadville, and Robin Neill and her husband Richard of Independence, Mo..; two sisters, Mary Ellen Davidson of Kirtland, Ohio, and Martha Miller of Painesville, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Randy, Ric and Ron Burt, Monica Krieder, Marla Matalino and Kari, Andrew and Kate Neill; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oliver and Harold Burt; and two sisters, Bernice Lawrence and Beatrice Smith. BURT Robert Peter Ammann Retired after 33 years from Chicago Bridge, Iron Works Robert Peter Ammann, 674 Conneaut Lake Road, Sugar Grove Township, formerly of Greenville, died at 2:35 p.m. Thursday (8-1-02) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 88. Mr. Ammann was born March 8, 1914, in Pittsburgh to William Frederick and Katherine Fullum Ammann. He retired after 33 years from Chicago Bridge and Iron Works, Hempfield Township. Mr. Ammann enjoyed camping, farming and spending time with his family. His wife, the former Gladys Esther Gill, whom he married Aug. 19, 1939, died May 28, 1999. Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs. John (Emma) Fordyce, Transfer; Mrs. Richard (Gladys) Rhoades, Reynolds; Mrs. Fred (Patricia) Hood, Meadville; and Mrs. Terry (Carol) Cooper, Greenville; two sisters, Margaret Mowry, Mercer; and Katherine Jones, Florida; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, William, James, Paul and Richard Ammann.
