Mr. Bartholomew served in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. Among those who preceded him in death was a sister, Philomenia Bartholomew.

W. Vincent Simeral

WWII Army veteran

was retired steelworker

W. Vincent Simeral, St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, formerly of 4 Davidson Ave., Greenville, died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 84.

Mr. Simeral was born Dec. 11, 1917, in Detroit to James V. Simeral and Mary C. McDonough Simeral.

A graduate of Turtle Creek (Pa.) High School, he worked for 28 years at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, retiring in 1981 as a brick layer.

Mr. Simeral was a member of St. Michael's Church; and Knights of Columbus Fitzmartin Council 1446, both Greenville.

As a U.S. Army veteran, he served as a technical corporal in France during World War II from 1942 to 1945.

He was an avid bowler, belonging to many leagues.

His wife, the former Emma M. Albright, whom he married on June 9, 1941, survives in Greenville.

Also surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. George (Betty) Stubert, Greenville; Patricia A. Simeral, Reston, Va.; and Mrs. Jerry (Sharen) Seiple, also Greenville; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Simeral was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Russell V. and Earl J. Simeral.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of St. Michael's School, 85 N. High St., Greenville 16125.

Walter Supel

WWII Army veteran was retired maintenance worker

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday for Walter Supel of 875 Sugar Hollow Road in Hermitage. He passed away at 11:55 a.m. Saturday (10-19-02) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 91.

Mr. Supel was born Oct. 1, 1911, in Farrell, a son of Ignatius and Rose Anton Supel.

He was a 1931 alumnus of Farrell High School and worked for more than 40 years in the Maintenance Department of Mercer Tube Corp.

Mr. Supel was a member of the Polish National Alliance Queen Wanda Lodge 2344 in Farrell.

He enjoyed bowling with both the PNA and Sawhill Tube bowling leagues at Thornton Hall Lanes in Sharon and at Sunset Lanes in Farrell.

He served for 4èyears with the U.S. Army during World War II and achieved the rank of corporal.

His wife, the former Amelia Lamparty, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1946, passed away on April 17, 1996.

Mr. Supel leaves: one sister, Mary Ann Malecki, Hermitage; and two brothers, Joseph Supel and his wife Margaret, Transfer; and Edward Supel, Sharpsville. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, his parents preceded him in death.

William Alan Thomas Sr.

Clark Trinity UM member retired from Westinghouse

William Alan Thomas Sr., 3126 Maplewood Drive, South Pymatuning Township, died at 4 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a brief illness. He was 81.

Mr. Thomas was born July 25, 1921, in Desire, Jefferson County, Pa., to William Miles Thomas and Mary Evelyn Hibbard Thomas.

He retired from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he was an engineering representative for 38 years.

An active member of Clark Trinity United Methodist Church, Mr. Thomas served as a trustee and an usher.

He also belonged to National Rifle Association.

He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing and was an expert woodworker. Mr. Thomas also liked gardening.

His wife, the former Helen Klingensmith, whom he married on Feb. 17, 1951, survives.

Also surviving are: four daughters, Trudelle Thomas, Cincinnati, Ohio; Ruth Thomas, DuBois, Pa.; Zelda Smith, Masury; and Marcia Giovengo, Sewickley, Pa.; one son, William Alan Thomas Jr., Greenville; and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers and sisters.
