Horace C. Grossman Sr. Retired union carpenter, WWII vet had 60 survivors Horace C. Grossman Sr., Branchton Road, Slippery Rock, died at 4 a.m. Monday (10-21-02) in his residence. He was 78. Mr. Grossman was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Cherry Township, Butler County, to John H. Grossman Sr. and Mary Hockenberry Grossman. He was a lifetime area resident and retired as a union carpenter with Local 500 of Carpenter's union in Butler. He was a member of Branchton (Pa.) United Methodist Church. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II and was a life member of American Legion Post 852 in Harrisville. Surviving are: his wife, the former Effie N. Coast, whom he married Dec. 16, 1949, at the residence; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence R. (Bonnie J.) Wallace, Slippery Rock; Mary E. Spence, Butler; and Mrs. Donald F. (Dale G.) Miller, Anderson, S.C.; six sons, Harold J. Applebee and his wife Sandy L., Anderson; Horace C. Grossman Jr. and his wife Mary M., Grove City; John R. Grossman and his wife Kimberly S., Slippery Rock; Joseph D. Grossman and his wife Kimberly A., Mercer; Marvin L. Grossman and his wife Judith A., Prospect, Pa.; and Kenneth C. Grossman, Slippery Rock; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Humes A. Grossman, Harrisville; Charles H. Grossman and Edward C. Grossman, both Boyers; and Robert L. Grossman, Slippery Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; three brothers, John Grossman, Nat Grossman and Eugene Grossman; and one sister, MaryLou Gress.
GROSSMAN Elizabeth 'Betty' Mae Dickey Former Sharpsville woman had sister living here BUTLER -- Elizabeth "Betty" Mae Dickey, Butler, formerly of Sharpsville, died at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, in Sunnyview Home. She was 81. Mrs. Dickey was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Sharpsville to Beryl E. Inbody and Kathryn L. Diefenderfer Inbody. She was employed in the housekeeping department of Buttercup Campground Building in Connoquenessing Township, Butler County. Mrs. Dickey was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Connoquenessing, and belonged to St. Paul's Ladies Aid; Meridian Women's Club, Butler; and the Artean Club. Her husband, the Rev. Robert E. Dickey Jr., died March 7, 1977. Surviving are: a daughter, Susan Holt, wife of Thomas H. Holt Jr., Meridian; a son, Raymond Dickey, Aliquippa; five grandsons and two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Mary Gean Lyden, Sharpsville; and Ruth Morgan, Sharon; and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Mrs. Dickey was preceded in death by two brothers and a great-grandson.

James Tisza Sr. Valley Mold retiree was league bowler in Sharon James Tisza Sr. of 1520 Brookfield Road SE, Hubbard, died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday (10-20-02) in O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury. He was 85. Mr. Tisza was born May 11, 1917, in Dayton, Ohio, a son of Paul and Rose Grosshart Tisza. He attended Elm and Stevenson schools in Masury. Mr. Tisza retired in 1979 as a craneman for Valley Mold, Hubbard, after 43 years of service. His memberships include the William Penn Life Branch 28, Youngstown; Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeast Ohio; and the Mixed Retirees Bowling League at Thornton Hall Lanes in Sharon. He was an avid fisherman. Survivors include: his wife, the former Anna Stano, whom he married Nov. 18, 1939; one son, James P. Tisza and his wife Kathy, McDonald, Ohio; and one grandson, David J. Tisza and his fiance, Angie Drake, Baltimore, Md. Mr. Tisza was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Steve and Paul Tisza; and two sisters, Clara Rotel and his twin, Rose Baltra. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Ohio Alzheimer's Research Center, 1899 W. Garfield Road, Columbiana, OH 44408.
TISZA Dr. Russell M. Wright BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Dr. Russell M. Wright, 1901 S. Ocean Blvd., Del Ray Beach, Fla. 33483, formerly of Jackson Center and Bloomfield Hills, Mich., died at 11:05 p.m. Friday (10-18-02) in Boca Raton Community Hospital. He was 98. Obituary information was incomplete.
WRIGHT John F. 'Fred' Lucas Jr. John F. "Fred" Lucas Jr., 1199 N. Perry Highway, Coolspring Township, died at 8:35 a.m. Monday (10-21-02) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, following a period of failing health. He was 53. Obituary information was incomplete.
