Kenneth D. Wimer Obituary was published 3-1-03 Mr. Wimer was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 800, Grove City. An incorrect lodge number was listed in the obituary published on Saturday.
Eugene L. Jackson WWII vet was mechanic, charter member of VFD Eugene L. Jackson, 385 Hadley Road, Greenville, and a current resident of St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, died at 1:43 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in St. Paul Homes. He was 85. Mr. Jackson was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Greenville to Glenn M. Jackson and Winifred M. Knox Jackson. He was a 1937 graduate of the former Penn High School in Greenville. As a veteran of World War II, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic for P-38s with the 96th Fighter Squadron, 82nd Fighter Group in the European theater of operations. His love of all things mechanical continued after the war as he began working for the former Dart Chevrolet in Greenville and then operated his own business, Jackson-Wiand Garage in Maysville, Pa., which he ran for many years. He later retired from the Fire Department of the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Mr. Jackson was an outstanding contributor to the institution of fire service and was a charter member and the first president of the West Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department, having served as a former fire chief of the department. He was a past commander and active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Hempfield Township, and belonged to the Mercer County Fireman's Association and Mercer County Fire Chief's Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville. His wife, the former Virginia H. Snyder, whom he married on Feb. 16, 1946, survives in Greenville. Also surviving are; a son, Ronald A. Jackson and his wife Tanya, Greenville; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Darlene) Loreno, State College, Pa.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eugene L. Jackson Jr.; and a sister.
Thomas W. Collins West Salem man was farmer, Sharon Steel retiree Thomas W. Collins, 30 Poplar Road, West Salem Township, died at 6:25 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in his residence after an apparent heart attack. He was 70. Mr. Collins was born July 6, 1932, in Culver City, Calif., to Daniel Collins and Anna Sinovich Collins. A graduate of the former St. Michael's High School in Greenville, he was employed for 38 years by the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he was a roll grinder. Mr. Collins retired on May 1, 1993 from Sharon Steel and was also a self-employed farmer in West Salem Township for all of his life. He was a member of St. Michael's Church in Greenville and belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Collins served from Jan. 3, 1952 to Jan. 2, 1955, achieving a rank of colonel. He was an avid hunter. His wife, the former Phyllis A. Christman, whom he married on Oct. 18, 1952, survives in Greenville. Also surviving are: six daughters, Mrs. William (Mary Jo) Irvine, Greenville; Mrs. Jeffrey (Linda) Mott, Fredonia; Janet Collins, Transfer; Mrs. Norman (Susan) Renwick, Mrs. Jonathan (Tracy) Powell and Mrs. James (Terry) Blackburn, all Greenville; one son, Thomas C. Collins and his wife Diane, Greenville; three sisters, Margaret Ceremuga, Poland, Ohio; Helen Dick, Greenville; and Eleanor Frkonja, Fredonia; two brothers, Robert Collins, Greenville; and John Collins, Garnersville, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Daniel Collins; and one grandson, Michael Diehl. COLLINS Charles Robert Amos Retired plasterer was coach, outdoorsman Charles Robert Amos, 8372 Lamor Road, East Lackawannock Township, died at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in his residence. He was 71.Mr. Amos was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Jackson Center to Arthur E. Amos and Ethel Ertel Amos. A plasterer, he was employed by Local 31 of International Order of Masons and Plasterers in Pittsburgh. Mr. Amos attended Mercer United Methodist Church and coached Little League. In 1965, he organized Mercer Midget Football. As an outdoorsman, he belonged to National Wildlife Association and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He enjoyed wild flowers and gardening. His wife, the former Phyllis Young, whom he married on Jan. 6, 1951, survives at the residence. Also surviving are: five daughters, Irene, wife of Steve Smith, Albion, Pa.; Terri, wife of Ron King, Mercer; Cathy, wife of Bob Gabany, Polk City, Fla.; Linda, wife of Bill Limberg, Grove City; and Diane, wife of Jeff Erb, Owensboro, Ky.; one son, Art Amos and his wife Linda, Mercer; two sisters, Charlotte Urey and Janice Black, both Mercer; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Amos was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mary Amos Bailleau and Joanne Amos. Memorial contributions may be made to Family Hospice, Colonial Square, 701 N.
