Today's obituaries Emma Conlon Former Sharon woman was born in Germany Mass of Christian burial will be Friday for Emma Conlon, John XXIII Home, Hermitage, formerly of 280 Boyd Drive, Sharon. She died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday (7-4-00) in the skilled-care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 98. Mrs. Conlon was born Oct. 23, 1901, in Germany to Otto H. and Emma Miebach Grosse. She immigrated to the United States in June 1904 and lived in Pittsburgh until 1909, when she moved to Sharon. A 1919 alumna of Sharon High School, Mrs. Conlon was a secretary for what is now The Herald, Sharon. She was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage; and attended St. Joseph's Church, Sharon. Her husband, John L. Conlon, whom she married Aug. 11, 1920, died Jan. 20, 1986. Surviving are: a daughter, E. Margaret Tevendale, Sun City Center, Fla.; a son, John "Jack" L., Sharon; eight grandsons; and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Tillie Cusick; and three brothers, Otto, Erich and Russell Grosse. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
CONLON Jennie 'Ginger' V. Jewell Jennie "Ginger" V. Jewell, 975 Biscayne Drive, Hermitage, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday (7-4-00) in Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage. She was 77. Obituary information was incomplete.
JEWELL Dale Kather Dale Kather, 128 Woodshire Road, Hempfield Township, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday (7-5-00) at home of natural causes. He was 67. Obituary information was incomplete.
KATHER Leni Erika Keener German-born waitress, caregiver lived in Hubbard Leni Erika Keener, 6330 Morningside Drive SE, Hubbard, died Tuesday afternoon (7-4-00) in Cleveland Clinic from complications of pneumonia. She was 59. Mrs. Keener was born July 28, 1940, in Gut-Hurth, Germany, to Michael and Marie Kipfmuller Gallo. She emigrated from Germany to the area in 1966. For 20 years, Mrs. Keener was a waitress for Town and Country Lounge, Hubbard. A member of Chestnut Ridge Church of God, Hubbard Township, she was a local caregiver for the elderly. Mrs. Keener enjoyed bingo, gardening and growing flowers. Surviving are: two sons, Larry and Robert, both Hubbard; a sister, Irene Schmitt, Germany; and two grandchildren.
KEENER Arthur L. 'Sonny' King Sr. Farrell man worked at Brookfield company Funeral will be Saturday for Arthur L. "Sonny" King Sr., 1200 Roemer Blvd., Farrell. He died at 4:03 a.m. Wednesday (7-5-00) at home of a heart ailment. He was 57. Mr. King was born Nov. 4, 1942, in Byron, Ga., to Virgle Lee and Rose Gains King. He worked at H&R Plating Co., Brookfield. Surviving are: five daughters, Rosalyn McCullough and Nancy Lloyd, both Pittsburgh; Charlyn, Hermitage; Amelia, Sharon; and Precious, Grand Rapids, Mich.; a son, Arthur L. Jr., Farrell; his mother; and a brother, Cleotis Gains, both Pittsburgh; 25 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Evelyn Platter.
KING Anna K. Billyk Komarc New Castle woman had son living in West Middlesex NEW CASTLE -- Funeral blessing service will be Friday for Anna K. Billyk Komarc, 1116 S. Mercer St., Apartment 304, New Castle. She died at 12:35 p.m. Monday (7-3-00) in the hospital of Jameson Health System. She was 91. Mrs. Komarc was born May 5, 1909, in Butler to Jacob and Anne Hudak Billyk. An alumna of Butler High School, she was a clerk for 10 years at Lawrence County Government Center. Mrs. Komarc was a former member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, Pittsburgh. Her husband, Frank Komarc, to whom she was married for 29 years, died in 1966. Surviving are a son, John F., West Middlesex; and two grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael, Frank, George and Andrew Billyk; and two sisters, Mary Herjeczski and Helen Boron.
KOMARC Marguerite S. Lohr Ex-Wilkinsburg woman was Greenville church member Funeral will be Saturday for Marguerite S. Lohr, West Salem Township, formerly of Wilkinsburg, Pa. She died at 4 a.m. Wednesday (7-5-00) in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. She was 96. Mrs. Lohr was born Jan. 20, 1904, in Wilkinsburg to George E. and Elizabeth Stier Sarver. She was a member of Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ, Greenville; and belonged to Greenville Church Women United for more than 24 years. Mrs. Lohr was active in the Pittsburgh Synodical Women's Guild and was a 50-year member of the Pennsylvania Chapter J of the PEO Sisterhood. She also served on the board of the Penn West Conference of United Church of Christ and belonged to the original board of the Wilkinsburg Community Ministry. Mrs. Lohr was a past president of the Women's Club and the Historical Society; and served on the YWCA Board of Directors, all Wilkinsburg. Since it began operation in 1975, she was a volunteer for St. Paul Homes. Her husband, Earl S. Lohr, whom she married July 19, 1930, died March 8, 1994. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Dale A. (Suzanne) Kern, Slatington, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
LOHR Margaret Ann Montgomery Retired New Castle teacher had lived in Slippery Rock Margaret Ann Montgomery, 328 Market St., New Wilmington, formerly of Slippery Rock, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (7-5-00) in Shenango Home, New Wilmington. She was 92. Miss Montgomery was born Feb. 7, 1908, in Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, to George Elmer and Ella Jane Moore Montgomery. An alumna of Grove City College and the University of Pittsburgh, she retired in 1973 after 39 years as a business teacher for New Castle Senior High School. As a member of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, Miss Montgomery was an honorary elder and belonged to its Women's Association and adult Sunday school class. She also belonged to Pennsylvania State Education Association. Surviving is a sister-in-law, Lylia Montgomery, Grove City. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph M., who died in 1987; and Arthur W., who died in 1984. Memorial contributions may be made to Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, RD 3, Slippery Rock 16057.
MONTGOMERY Jack Norris Born in Mississippi, Farrell man was truck driver Jack Norris, 609 Wallis Ave., Farrell, died at 10:41 a.m. Wednesday (7-5-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System of heart failure. He was 59. Mr. Norris was born July 20, 1940, in Sylvarena, Miss., to Benjamin and Alberta Hosey Norris. He was a truck driver for Sharon Paving Co. and previously drove truck for Goldberg Salvage Co., Sharon. Surviving are: five daughters, Annette Anderson, Atlanta; Regina Atwood and Phyllis Jones, both Sharon; Lisa Campbell, Masury; and Linda Jones, Farrell; two sons, Melvin Williams, Milwaukee, Wis.; and Henry Jones, Benton Harbor, Mich.; a sister, Mildred Ivey, Farrell; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert and twins Levon and Devon; and a sister, Thelma Hughes.
NORRIS Glenn L. Payne Tucson man, a Delta Airlines retiree, had children here TUCSON, Ariz. -- Glenn L. Payne, Tucson, formerly of Texas, died at 6:56 p.m. June 28, 2000, in St. Joseph's Hospital following an extended illness. He was 69. Mr. Payne was born Oct. 4, 1930, in East Springfield, Ohio, to Arthur and Irma Maple Payne. He retired as a customer service agent for what is now Delta Airlines, Tucson. A Navy veteran, Mr. Payne served from 1948-53 during the Korean conflict, and helped establish the Edward W. Rhoads Chapter of Korean War Veterans Association, Tucson. He was also a member of American Legion Post 36; and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both Tucson. The avid golfer enjoyed golfing at a Wednesday morning golf league in Tucson. Surviving are: his wife of 16 years, the former Sylvia Schwartz; a daughter, Vikki Lyn Masotto, Sharpsville; a son, Jon Sloan, Sharon; his mother, Irma Robertson, Daytona Beach, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Martin (Ethel) O'Brien, Ormond Beach, Fla.; a stepbrother, George Robertson, Hohenwald, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Monday (7-3-00) in American Legion Post 36, 5845 E. 22 St., Tucson. Burial with full military honors was held today (7-6-00) in National Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix.
Stephen Sike PACIFICA, Calif. -- Stephen Sike, 1475 Crespi Drive, Pacifica, formerly of Sharpsville, died Wednesday morning (7-5-00) at home. He was 83. Obituary information was incomplete.
SIKE Joseph Somogyi Jr. Pa. Railroad retiree formerly of Farrell was ex-pro boxer Funeral will be Friday for Joseph Somogyi Jr., Sharon, formerly of 920 Spearman Ave., Farrell. He died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday (7-5-00) in Clepper Manor, Sharon. He was 94. Mr. Somogyi was born May 24, 1906, in Sharon to Joseph and Susan Besce Somogyi Sr. He attended Farrell area schools and retired as a railroader for the Pennsylvania Railroad. At one time, Mr. Somogyi was a well-known professional boxer. An Army veteran, he served in the Third Armor Division with Gen. George S. Patton in Europe during World War II. Mr. Somogyi was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Sharon. Surviving are two nephews, Terry I. Varraux, Hermitage; and Dr. Alan R. Varraux, Orlando, Fla. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Sophia Varraux, Helen J. Davis and Gertrude.
SOMOGYI Mildred Leona Vinroe Walochik Ex-Grove City homemaker was bowler, bingo player Mildred Leona Vinroe Walochik, St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township, formerly of West Poplar and Liberty streets, both Grove City, died at 7:04 a.m. Wednesday (7-5-00) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, following an extended illness. She was 82. Mrs. Walochik was born July 22, 1918, in Butler to Leroy and Margaret Kennedy Vinroe. She attended East Butler schools. A homemaker, Mrs. Walochik was a longtime bowler in Grove City leagues and an avid bingo player. Her husband, John Walochik, whom she married March 8, 1947, died Aug. 8, 1987. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Margaret) Taylor, Mercer; and Mary Lou Glaister, Grove City; three sons, John A. and Charles E., both Grove City; and Ronald J., Mercer; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Mary Eleanor) Miller, Butler; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter; three brothers, Leroy, Lawrence and Harry Vinroe; and a sister, Marie Elliott.
