The Herald was given additional information.Evelyn Bell McNees Erie woman was retired jewelry clerk, knitted afghans ERIE -- Funeral will be Monday for Evelyn Bell McNees, 807 West Ninth St., who died Thursday (2-22-01) in Hamot Medical Center, Erie, following a lengthy illness. She was 84. Mrs. McNees was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Erie, to Alfred and Wilhelmina Reighart Bell. A 1934 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, she had been a clerk for Pedens Jewelers, Grove City, prior to her retirement in 1987. Mrs. McNees was a member of Cascade United Methodist Church and the Women's Club. She enjoyed knitting afghans. Surviving are: three sons, Terry C. McNees and his wife, Kathy, Puyallop, Wash.; Gregory L. McNees and his wife, Cheryl, Fairfield, Texas; and Conrad L. McNees and his partner, Leonard A. Johnson, Erie; a brother, Vincent Bell and his wife, Lily; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Linda Maines and Vicki Costello. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. McNees, on Feb. 29, 1972; and a niece, Susan Bell Alvord. Dorothy May Broz Mierke Ohio native was outdoors enthusiast, in curling club BOBCAYGEON, Ontario, Canada -- Dorothy May Broz Mierke, 28 Boyd St., formerly of Howland, Ohio, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday (2-22-01) in Case Manor Nursing Home, Bobcaygeon. She was 88. Mrs. Mierke was born May 2, 1912, in Warren, Ohio, to Edwy F. and Mary Grace (Howard) Brugmann. Moving to Canada in 1973, she had been employed at United Telephone, Orwell, Ohio and Geometric Stamping, Cleveland. Mrs. Mierke was a former member of Vienna (Ohio) United Methodist Church. An avid outdoors person, she was a member of the Canadian Legion, Bobcaygeon; Independent Order of Foresters, Cleveland; and Bobcaygeon Curling Club. Surviving are: a daughter, Mary Grace Kachurik, Cortland, Ohio; two sons, Edward W. "Bill" Broz, Kent, Wash. and Charles E. Broz, Masury; three brothers, Edward Brugmann, Key West, Fla., Charles Brugmann, American Somoa and Ernest Brugmann, San Diego, Calif.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mierke, in 1972.
MIERKE Christina M. Muraca British Columbia native lived in Farrell for 47 years Christina M. Muraca, White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township, formerly of Farrell, died at 3:10 p.m. Friday (2-23-01) in the home after a brief illness. She was 92. Mrs. Muraca was born Jan. 2, 1909, in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada, to Pasquale and Frances Scarpino Arcuri. After living in Farrell for 47 years, she made her home with daughter Frances Bish, Mercer, for three years. Mrs. Muraca has resided in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township, for two years. Her husband, Santo Muraca, whom she married Oct. 6, 1926, died Nov. 12, 1992. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Ceasar (Rose) Gallegos and Mrs. Dale W. (Frances) Bish, both of Mercer; a son, Peter A. Muraca, Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada; a sister, Belinda Drew, Vancouver, British Columbia; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Caroline Pierpont, Florence Gregg and Jean Arcuri; and two brothers, Peter and Victor Arcuri. MURACA Mary A. Chizmar Mary A. Chizmar, 1318 Pierce Ave., Sharpsville, died at 12:50 p.m. Friday (2-23-01) in Nugent's Convalescent Home, Hermitage, of natural causes. She was 75. Obituary information was incomplete.
CHIZMAR Darrell W. Venetta Sharon man was retired from former Valley Mold Darrell W. Venetta, 301 Malleable St., Sharon, died at 5:55 a.m. Friday (2-23-01) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a brief illness. He was 84. Mr. Venetta was born Sept. 9, 1916, in West Middlesex, to James and Minnie Miller Venetta. Retiring in 1978 after 26 years, he was a chipper at the former Valley Mold in Hubbard. Mr. Venetta liked to go fishing and hunting in his younger years. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Christy (Spring V.) McMurdy, Sharon; two sons, Darrell W. Venetta and wife, Darla, Sharon; and Robert J. Venetta, Sharon; and a brother, Robert O. Venetta, West Middlesex; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, the former Doris J. Farley, who died Jan. 10, 2000, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Merle Helen Venetta and Claire Miller; and a grandchild, Jacob Adam Rigby. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Organ Recovery, 204 Sigma Drive, Pittsburgh, 15238. VENETTA Fred A. Wagner Former Fredonia councilman was horseshoe champion Fred A. Wagner, Woodland Place Inc., Coolspring Township, formerly of 30 College Ave., Fredonia, died at 5 a.m. Friday (2-23-01) in the nursing home following a period of failing health. He was 88. Mr. Wagner was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Delaware Township to Alfred and Laura Baer Wagner. On June 20, 1935, he married the former Bertha Baer, who survives. Mr. Wagner was employed by the former Chicago Bridge and Iron Co., Greenville, from which he had retired. He was a member and deacon of St. John United Church of Christ, now known as Christ Community Church, Delaware Township. Mr. Wagner was a former council member for Fredonia Borough and a member for many years of Stony Point Grange. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, square dancing and was an avid gardener. Mr. Wagner loved playing horseshoes. The 10-year National Horseshoe Association member had received many Championship awards in Class B Horseshoe Competition. He was a snowbird with a winter residence in Winter Haven, Fla., for 23 years. Surviving besides his wife are: a daughter, Mrs. Marge Burriss, Fredericksburg, Va.; and a son, Robert, Fredonia; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a son, Frederick LeRoy Wagner of Fredonia; a brother, Paul Wagner of Poland, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Lori Anne Wagner. WAGNER Erma J. Covington Life-long Wheatland woman was doting grandmother Erma J. Covington, 40 Vaughn Ave., Wheatland, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Friday (2-23-01) at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, following a two-year battle with cancer. She was 74. Mrs. Covington was born June 20, 1926, in Wheatland, to Frank and Myra Frazier Mohney. A life-long resident of Wheatland, she attended schools there and had worked at the former Myer Frank Furniture Store, Farrell, The Sharon Store and the former Sharon Steel's Farrell plant during World War II. A homemaker and an active member of Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, Mrs. Covington was active on the Finance-Stewardship, Worship-Evangelism and Communion committees. A doting grandmother, she was proud of her grandchildren's accomplishments. Mrs. Covington enjoyed traveling and spending time at Buhl Farm park, walking and listening to the bands. Her husband, Thomas R. Covington whom she married Nov. 13, 1945, died Jan. 2, 1994. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Raymond E. (Myra Ann) Spangler, Shenango Township; two sisters, Mrs. Belva Fulford, Masury and Mrs. Clara McClearn, Hermitage; two grandchildren, Tara Ann Spangler and Raymond Thomas Spangler, both of Shenango Township. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Grace and May Mohney.
