Today's obituaries Donald A. Grande Obituary was published 10-4-01 Among Mr. Grande's survivors is a sister, Dorothy Dirgo of Farrell. Additional information was given to The Herald.
Dr. Mazzola was preceded in death by one brother, Sam R. Mazzola, who authored Dr. Mazzola's autobiography, "Life Story -- Historical, Nostalgic, Inspiring -- Insights Never Told." Mamie Lee Lewis Homemaker was active in Farrell's First Baptist Church A funeral service will be held Monday for Mamie Lee Lewis, Woodland Place, Coolspring Township, formerly of Farrell and Sharon. She died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday (10-3-01) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 90. Mrs. Lewis was born Nov. 10, 1910, in Greenville, Ala., to Anderson and Lee Boggan Brown. She was a homemaker. As a member of First Baptist Church in Farrell, Mrs. Lewis belonged to the choir, Mission Society and the Women's Fellowship. In Alabama, she was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Prince Hall Affiliation Pilgrim Chapter 631, Greenville. Surviving are: her husband, Henry Lewis, whom she married Feb. 7, 1931, Woodland Place; five daughters, Mrs. Samuel (Annie B.) Hughes, Farrell; Mrs. Calvin (Gertie) Armstrong, Buffalo, N.Y.; and Mrs. Marvin (Clattie) Tiggett; Mamie F. Evans; and Patricia Scott, all Warren, Ohio; a son, Michael G. Lewis, Farrell; 16 grandchildren, Cynthia, Deborah, Dell, Felicia, Pamela, Sonja, Cassandra, Tara, Michelette, Michael G. Jr., Chalanda, Chere', Amiya, Shayla, Devon and Lamuel; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Ollison; and a brother, Anderson Brown Jr.
LEWIS Esther Scelsi Esther Scelsi, 309 Madison St., Sharon, died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday (10-4-01) in Orange Village Care Center, Masury. She was 95. Obituary information was incomplete.
SCELSI Samuel H. Steingrabe WE retiree served in church, community, PGC, Masons Samuel H. Steingrabe, 6983 E. State St., Jefferson Township, died at 1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in his residence of natural causes. He was 84. Mr. Steingrabe was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Lackawannock Township to Paul and Luella Root Steingrabe. A 1934 graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage, he retired in 1979 after 36 years from Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he was a machinist. As a member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Greenfield, Mr. Steingrabe was an elder and served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He also belonged to Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 180, Mercer; Scottish Rite's New Castle Consistory; and was a 48-year member and past master of Free and Accepted Masons Hebron Lodge 575 in Coolspring Township. For 35 years, Mr. Steingrabe was an instructor in the Pennsylvania Game Commission's hunter education program. He was a deputy game protector for 17 years for the game commission, and in 1980 was named Outstanding Deputy Protector of the Year. Mr. Steingrabe also was recipient of the 1982 Wildlife Conservation Award. He served on the board of directors for Unity Cemetery in Lackawannock Township; and for two terms was a school board director for West Middlesex School District. Mr. Steingrabe was the last survivor of the original members of Camp Amadaha, a hunting camp in western Pennsylvania. Surviving are: his wife, the former Kathryn Swartz, whom he married Sept. 4, 1942, at home; three sons, S. Richard Steingrabe, Hermitage; James R. Steingrabe, West Middlesex; and Glenn R. Steingrabe, Brockport, Pa.; five sisters, Mary "Dolly" Miller, West Middlesex; Eva Mae Engel, New Wilmington; Melsena, wife of Samuel Kelso; and Eleanor, wife of William Spangler, all Mercer; and Dorothy, wife of Lloyd Plunkett, Center Point, Ind.; two brothers, Charles L. Steingrabe, Mercer; and George H. Steingrabe, West Middlesex; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Chester, Howard and Thomas Steingrabe. Memorial contributions may be made to Unity Presbyterian Church, 1857 Mercer-West Middlesex Road, Mercer 16137.
