Daniel R. Jacobson Teacher, youth worker was '76 KC grad, Fun Fest official Daniel R. Jacobson of 3325 Longview Road, Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly at 11:46 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in his residence. He was 43. Born July 22, 1958, in Sharon, Mr. Jacobson was a son of Raymond Joseph and Kathryn McClain Jacobson. Mr. Jacobson was a 1976 graduate of what is now Kennedy Catholic High School. In 1982, he earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Youngstown State University, certifying him to teach health and physical education in Pennsylvania to grades kindergarten through 12. While there, he was a recipient of the Carson Laborde Award for excellence in physical education. Mr. Jacobson was currently attending Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J., working toward a master of arts degree in counseling. After graduating from college, he became a substitute school teacher in many districts. From 1987-93, Mr. Jacobson was a supervisor for the Bavarian Fun Fest at Quaker Steak & Lube in Sharon. From 1993-99, he was an adaptive physical education teacher and assistant track coach in Hubbard Area Schools. Daniel was a member of the Therapeutic Support Staff of Associates in Child Guidance in Hermitage, where he helped coordinate and implement treatment plans for youth with behavioral health needs. Most recently, he was on the Therapeutic Support Staff at Sharon Regional Health System. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sharon. Daniel enjoyed playing guitar in his free time and was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, archery and golfing. He was also an avid hockey player and loved spending time with his daughter. Survivors include: his wife, the former Maria Josephine Romeo, whom he married Oct. 1, 1999; one daughter, Olivia Shea Jacobson, at home; his parents, Hermitage; three sisters-in-law, Camille Romeo, RoAnne Romeo and Adele Romeo; and a brother-in-law, Robert Romeo Jr., all New Castle; three nieces, Geena Romeo, Genevieve Romeo and Siairra Romeo; one nephew, Julian Romeo; and a host of cousins and close friends. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
JACOBSON David A. Matika Sharon Steel retiree, St. Ann member was Vietnam vet A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday for David A. Matika, 790 Shady Ave., Sharon. He passed away Tuesday evening (4-16-02) in his residence. He was 55. Mr. Matika was born Feb. 26, 1947, in Sharon, a son of Andrew G. and Carmelina P. Cannone Matika. A 1965 alumnus of Sharon High School, Dave retired from the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he had been employed for more than 20 years. Mr. Matika belonged to St. Ann's Church, Farrell. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served in combat arms during the Vietnam conflict as a lance corporal. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286 in Farrell. Surviving are: his mother, at home; two sisters, Julie Varraux, wife of Terry; and Mary A. Szabo, wife of Joseph, both Sharon; two nieces; and two nephews. Mr. Matika was preceded in death by his father. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
MATIKA Helen Sincek Former Farrell woman belonged to St. Adalbert's A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday for Helen Sincek, formerly of 1124 Hamilton Ave., Farrell. She died at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 87. Mrs. Sincek was born May 23, 1914, in Wheatland to Zygmond Blazavitch and Mary Hornyak Blazavitch. She was a member of St. Adalbert's Church in Farrell. Her husband, Frank Sincek, whom she married June 17, 1939, died Jan. 31, 1995. Surviving are: two sons, Frank and his wife Marianne Sincek, Mercer; and Steve Sincek, Brookfield; a daughter, Mary Ann and her husband Charles Averell, Warren, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Shane Thomas, Frank Sincek Jr., Steve Sincek, Jeffrey Sincek, John Sincek, Brian Averell and Megan Averell; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Thomas and Jacob Sincek. Besides her husband, Mrs. Sincek was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard Sincek; one brother, Walter Blazavitch; and three sisters, Sophie Bayer, Mary Ann Hoza and Margaret Vaytilla.
SINCEK Alexander T. 'Sam' Parenti Alexander T. "Sam" Parenti, 99 Glacial Till Road, Liberty Township, died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday (4-17-02) in his home. He was 74. Obituary information was incomplete.
PARENTI Gary E. Redzinak St. Mark's UCC member had worked at Reznor Gary E. Redzinak, 25 Reno Road, Jefferson Township, died at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, following an extended illness. He was 52. Mr. Redzinak was born May 2, 1949, in Greenville to Henry and Charlotte Harpst Redzinak. He was employed in the maintenance department at Reznor -- a unit of Thomas & Betts Corp., Mercer, before his illness forced an early retirement. Mr. Redzinak was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, New Hamburg. He also belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6345 in Mercer, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Surviving are: his parents, Fredonia; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Allen (Laura) Rossman, Sharon; a stepson, Robert Pendley; two brothers, William Redzinak and his wife Judy, Sharpsville; and Richard Redzinak, Sharon; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Sharon) Bryan, New Wilmington; and three stepgrandchildren. REDZINAK Delbert W. Tice '55 Sharon High grad was retired Ohio store sales rep Delbert W. Tice of 638 Saul Drive, Hubbard, passed away at 1:47 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. He was 65. Born Nov. 14, 1936, in Sharon, Mr. Tice was a son of the late Delbert C. and Hazel Polick Tice. A 1955 alumnus of Sharon High School, where he was a basketball standout, he retired from G.F. Office Furniture in Youngstown, where he was a sales representative for 16 years. Following his retirement, Mr. Tice worked for DeBald Office Supplies, Youngstown; and later at Barnes Office Supplies, Warren, Ohio. Survivors include: his wife, the former Anna Hamilla, whom he married Dec. 2, 1961, at home; his stepmother, Elnora "Norie" Tice, Farrell; three stepsisters, Mrs. Dave (Noreen) D'Amore, Hermitage; Mrs. Paul (Kathleen) Purish, Farrell; and Mrs. Dave (Mary Ann) Germano, Sharon; one brother, Fred Tice and his wife Rosemary, Hermitage; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tice was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Tim and William Slattery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
TICE Lucille 'Lou' Vanek St. Joe's church member was waitress at Sharon Hotel A private funeral service and interment will be held for Lucille "Lou" Vanek, 221 Fairmont Drive, Hermitage, formerly of South Irvine Avenue, Sharon. She passed away at 6:07 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in her residence after a brief illness. Mrs. Vanek was born in Port Arthur, Texas, a daughter of the late Chester and Mary Smith. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon and had been employed for a number of years as a waitress at the Sharon Hotel. Survivors include: her companion of more than 25 years, Frank G. Flinn, with whom she made her home; and two sisters, Mrs. J.C. (Della) Kervin, Cleveland, Texas; and Mrs. F.D. (Beulah) Gladden, Port Arthur. In addition to her parents, one sister, Bell Walters, preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
